We're having a 5 minute cuddle before we go to the park feat Snapchat because nobody can look bad with a bear filter. We've had a lovely day with my grandparents and husbands dad. I've cooked us lunch and brownies & then we have all spent this afternoon feeling very full yet playing in the garden with Arthur. He has been an absolute joy. He slept in his own bed for the third night. He at 23 months had moved into a bigger bedroom with a single bed. He had been in the small room with a crib, but we haven't been able to get him to sleep in there for a good month which means he has been sleeping with us. I think it's a mixture of reasons - he appears to be learning fear, of the dark and of spiders (which is interesting as I don't feel we have taught him those behaviours), so he now has a moon and stars nightlight in his bedroom. I also think he hated the cot and not being able to get out. He also just likes being with us. To be honest; we've always liked it too and have loved bed sharing. As he is older though we all disturb one another and nobody is sleeping as well. We've also both never wanted to CIO (or any form of it) so have never pushed him to sleep in his own room, but I think he has been more than ready as the transition has been so easy.
Mum groups on facebook
I joined some a while ago after I reactivated my facebook. It is just a car crash, but like a car crash, you cannot look away.
This evening as I scrolled through I saw a video a mother had taken of her disciplining her child, congratulating herself for ensuring he would sit on the naughty step whilst he sobbed uncontrollably. She said herself that he had been really ill "but that's no excuse to shout at me because he wanted chocolate before dinner!" He had just turned two.
Other mothers congratulated her. Other mothers suggesting spanking the child to teach 'respect'.
Parents posting pictures of newborns in car seats with thick coats or giving out early weaning 'advice' and shouting about how vaccinations cause autism.
Why do I read it? It makes me angry and sad. It's toxic. I'm not blaming these women, these mothers. They obviously love their children and simply, their views are different to mine, likely due to their environment & family life. I do agree with 'my baby my choice' to a degree- BUT that decision has to be reached with credible research and sources. It has to be made with the child's needs first, always.
I don't even know what I'm trying to say. I guess it just makes me sad.
Arthur is the cutest
He has learnt how to say "Auntie" and "Uncle" and my sisters name. We visited today and he pretty much didn't stop shouting her all day. He says her name "Diddy" and it's just adorable.
