RATING: OKAY
Yes, from now on, I will rate stories as "Not for me," "okay," "Good," or "Awesome."
So what makes this issue just okay?
Well, I can't help but notice that these four issues stretched two stories that could have been told in two each. And it shows, the story barely progressed. To be fair, it is progressing at a believable pace, but the wait is a little too much. I'd rather have one feature per issue (unless this was like a giant-sized comic where you can fit multiple random adventures).
Another thing that makes this a less than optimal experience, is that it takes place before the current stories taking place in TMNT and Nightwatcher, which would be fine if they starred different characters, but Casey and Raphael were just seen in TMNT, so there is very little stakes at play here. I assume they wanted to start this title with heavy-hitters, and hopefully move on to more obscure characters later, but I don't know... (I haven't checked the previews).
In any case, I think the format is ruining these stories. I usually adore Erik Burnham stories, and Tom Waltz has delivered great stories in the past... but there's just not enough material in each issue to get me excited.
The art is another topic. Mateus does an amazing job, as usual, but Vincenzo's art sometimes is confusing, leaving me staring at the page, trying to figure out what the action is (it's not often, but there is one panel in this one where Raphael got attacked that I think I know what happened, but it's not super clear... perhaps a wider shot would have helped.
Finally... Dr. Yuhasz is too much like Baxter... mixed by Agent Bishop. The mechanical body looks great, but I'd like this character to differentiate a bit more from those two in the future. Will be get to see his origin?
I just wish no one expects me to speak Krakoan all the time. I've spent years trying to make sure Leo doesn't lose his Spanish because he was really little when we moved to USA. It's an important part of us.
