Charlie Chaplin and his dog Mutt (film Scraps) during the production of the 1918 film 'A Dog's Life'.
Charlie, a tramp, lives on the streets and tries unsuccessfully to find work. When he steals some food, he barely escapes a policeman. He has a good heart and is eager to help other beings in need. After another day of fruitless attempts to find employment, he saves a stray mutt from attacks by several other dogs. Together with Scraps, he manages to steal a few sausages. They also visit a dance hall where dogs are not allowed and meet a singer Edna (Edna Purviance). Charlie wants to make her laugh.
The short film was made at a time when Chaplin was already enjoying worldwide fame.
As with most of his films, he was also a producer, screenwriter, director, editor and composer.
Behind the camera, of course, Roland Totheroh.
Interesting fact: Minnie Chaplin, the first wife of Sydney Chaplin (Charlie's older brother) played in this film - she played a short role as one of the dancing women.

It was 56° degrees out today so we took advantage and did a couple laps around the Lake.
My dog Beretta has been one of the best things that’s ever happened to me. I remember when I fist got him in 2012 with a fishhook in his leg. I knew he needed me, but I didn’t realize yet how much I would need him. We went on walks, explored bike trails, went to different towns, snuggled up at night, and just understood eachother. Then he had a growth appear on his back right leg that turned out to be a tumor… they gave him 6 months, but he lasted for another 2 years❤️ But time catches up with all of us. He’s now reunited and running around with his siblings Oso and Mia, and I’m glad he’s not alone. Goodbye my love, and thank you for everything. ❤️🐶🐾
