My MadWheeler headcanons because theyre taking over my brain right now:
Theyre smoking buddies (obviously) and they get funded by Eddie post s3
Max is the first person Mike tells about his crush on Will and in turn Max tells Mike about her crush on El. Mike is confused because what about Lucas but she tells him that Lucas already know and agrees. Mike is more confused
Sometimes Mike sneaks out of his house in the middle of the night(because being in that house can get exhausting) to bike over to the trailer park with stolen beer or liquor or wtv he could find at home.
Susan is used to coming home early in the morning after a night shift to find her daughter and Mike Wheeler passed out (drunk) on her sofa. She tried talking to Max about it one time and Max just shot back with "at least I dont do it alone!" And that was the end of that conversation.
One time mike casually mentions how he jumped off a cliff that one time and Max is just like "What????" But its post s3 so Max gets it and shares her own deep seated desire to just not be anymore. Muke gets it too.
In every crowd at school they'll gravitate toward each other because crowds are scary and daunting and the only person who really gets why that is is each other.
Mike comes to her one day with the need to get piercings so they go to Eddie together and get their upper ears pierced. Later they go back and Mike does his belly button while max does her bottom lip. (Eddie is very proud all through out)
They do each other's hair while drunk. Max always messes up Mike's hair and leaves it looking like a bird nest. Mike does the most intricate braids he learnt from Sue Sinclair. It takes a long time but ends up looking really pretty. Max keeps her braids in for days because she likes them so much but she always whines and complains when Mike is around. He knows she likes hem though because otherwise she wouldn’t let him do them
In the same vain, they do each other's nails. Toes and fingers both. Mike likes getting his painted black (like his soul~) but Max always uses the sparkly kind so it looks less emo and more glitterpen-esque. Max does hers in reds and blues and purples.
For a while, Mike is the only person Max talks about her family with. She tells him about Neil and his screaming and throwing and punching (Billy). She tells him about how Billy would protect her against Neil's wrath, about how Billy would come out of his room some mornings black and blue and wouldn't go to school for a few days and how she'd have to ride the bus those days and how worried she's always be about him. She tells Mike about how her mom never did or said anything, about how she never seemed to notice anything going on in the house and how frustrating that was
Mike would listen and he understands. Maybe not to the same extent but he understands. Thats always enough for Max.
Sometimes they would cry in front of each other and the other would have no idea how to respond so they'd also start crying. For solidarity. It helps more than either of them will ever admit.
They get matching bracelets. They wear them everywhere but because both of them prefer long sleeves these days no one really notices.
Max sneaks into Mike's room through his window a lot. So much so that he's learnt to leave his window unlocked. They also have a secret knock combination so they know its the other. They use it in class sometimes to get the other's attention. They've already swapped spare keys so they both have a safe space to go to in case of an "emergency" (this was one of those times Max started crying because she wishes so bad to have had this before. Before starcourt. maybe that wouldve changed everyrhing)
They sit next to each in every class they share and pass notes the entire time. Mike helps Max with science (particularly chemestry because Max struggled the most there) and english and Max would help Mike with Spanish. They're both shit at Math. They say its cause theyre gay and its homphobic to ask them to be good at it
Max lost her skateboard a little after s3 because Neil was throwing a tantrum and she got involved without meaning to. Mike saves up secretly and buys her a new red one for Christmas. Because saying thank you and stuff to each other is Weird(TM), Max ends up teaching him how to ride it in return.
Like Richie and Beverly before them, they sometimes skip classes (math most often) to go smoke behind the school. Other regulars there know them as a pair.
One time Max punches some kid in the face when she sees them picking on Mike (he's very chill and doesn't really care, he was just waiting them out so he could get to his locker) and she gets sent to detention for it. Later that day, Mike leaves halfway through a class on purpose so he could sit in detention with her. He tells her the teacher was an ass amd that he didn’t do anything wrong because he doesn't want her thinking he cares. In turn, Max tells him that she only punched the guy cause he was in her way. The both know they're lying, they just pretend for the other's sake
Post s4 when Max is in a coma, Mike is there by her bedside almost as often as Lucas. Lucas doesn't really get why he cares so much, or how he knows her favourite kind of flowers or her favourite songs. Mike always just shrugs and says "we're friends too you know" (in the present tense, always in the present tense).
They created a secret language for themselves in finger taps, tongue clicks, eye rolls, eyebrows placements, etc, so they could bitch at each other in crowds or in class without being over heard. Post s4 when Max is in the coma, mike would try tapping out "come back" or "where are you" or when he's feeling particularly low "i miss you" in the hopes that she responds. She never does. (In Vecna's mind, Max is able to feel the taps on her arm and knows its Mike every time. She tries tapping back sometimes but it never does anything.)
In relation to that, when Max eventually wakes up, blind and wheelchair ridden for the most part, they alter their secret code to just feel/hearing based signs. And sometimes when Mike or Max arent feeling like talking (because talking is hard sometimes for them both) they can be found tapping / whistling / snapping / wtv at each other. It looks like they've gone mad to everyone else but they dont really care.
They share clothes. Not in like a sexy way, more that they forget to bring them to each other's place and can't be bothered to go back and get smt so they just wear each other's stuff. Max refuses Mike's polo's and Mike refuses any pink stuff from Max. Max does have a photo of Mike wearing one of her floral dresses (he's tweiling in it, delicately pinching the dress up, grinning and dancing on his tip toes. Like an idiot) while they were high at Eddie's and she holds it over his head. Mike secretly thinks dresses are fun but will never admit it. Max knows but won't say anything.
