but on a lighter note, i've created a blog that will be dedicated to yedam. given that he is now pursuing a career in producing, I anticipate seeing a lot from him in the future (:

A Note about recent “The Chain” installment

This is an author’s note of sorts for, as stated above, the latest “The Chain” installment I’ve posted.  Read the installment HERE for context.

So, I’m not 100% satisfied with it.  I consider it incomplete.  So, the reason L lies to Light about his anxieties is because he’s pretty sure he already knows how Light would respond and sees the exchange pointless.  Something along the lines of this:

L:  Would you want to be reunited with the killing power if it meant regaining something missing?  Make yourself whole?

Light:  No!  I don’t want to be a killer!

I initially agreed, but now I’m not so sure.  L instinctually knows that something’s changed since Light’s confinement.  Light’s aware that there are gaps in his memory and has doubts about himself, but suppresses the concern to focus on proving himself innocent and not complicate things further; choosing instead to put all his faith into his innocence.  Though, surely the gaps are an annoyance or a worry to him.  The “make me whole” thing would tempt him to say yes, but would still outwardly say no (replacing the exclamation marks with ellipses).  Then L would still want to go against Light’s wishes and try to do it anyway since, along with satisfying his own curiosity, he’d feel that was best for Light.  He’d argue that if it were him, he’d want the missing pieces to return no matter what they are since not knowing would drive him crazy.  Light, with his more rigid morals, most likely at this point would rather not know or maybe has deemed the information unimportant by now.  Dwelling on the missing pieces is a distraction, so Light’s willing to ignore them (basically his canon attitude).  Meanwhile, L wouldn’t be able to not fixate on the missing information.

I left out such a scene because: 

1) I felt it was unnecessary.

2) L would consider the conversation unnecessary since he knows what he’s going to do regardless of Light’s answer.  The emotional growth here is that he doesn’t purposely antagonize Light this time.

3) I only considered it after completing the installment and it’s long enough as is.

Below this: SPOILERS FOR MY FUTURE PLANS I may still illustrate this since I do want to do a branching path at some point, and this could be part of it.  Having this conversation out loud could alter important choices.  Or I may include it anyway, or bring up the concept in a different way.  If I don’t for whatever reason, this post exists and may be linked to the master list to serve as an explanation for L’s actions.  It bugged me for a while that I came up with this installment but couldn’t figure out why L would straight up lie to Light about this when they’re getting physically closer while he’d been pretty open about other things, and the explanation “he’s a liar” wasn’t satisfying to me.  Seemed like an arbitrary choice.  We’ll see what the next installment holds.  We’re at a pretty important point, don’tcha know~?
