I’ve been in a reflective mood of late and yesterday during a girly conversation about Confidence and Empowering today’s Youth; remembered during my younger days; detesting my skin tone (not matter how amazingly MELANIN it was). It was a culmination of not feeling beautiful enough and other insecurities of life. This lead to all sorts of behavioural issues like eating disorder, craving love in all the wrong places and trying to be something I truly wasn’t which still made me not fulfilled anyway. Believe me, it pays to have ‘REAL’ people around you who will always speak TRUTH (even it means slapping you around a few times - not figuratively though) but people who keep YOU in check and empower YOU to be the best YOU. It took me years to get to where I am with knowing that I Beautiful Enough and that my Melanin skin glistens like shiny gold (under the light).
