Nan has loved Phu so long and Phu never gave him an ounce of credit and now he's come back after a decade and he seems to expect that life will simply pick up where he left out and that Nan isn't hurt or upset because Nan doesn't let himself be hurt or upset and then that illusion is broken because Nan knows he was lied to and suddenly it's like a dam breaks inside him, a dam of lies and a decade of pain and a decade of loneliness and a decade of looking for the one person that mattered to him more than anyone else...

Nan literally flew to Australia to search for him, spent years sending e-mails to a person who never responded and then he finds out that the person he's been searching for this whole time has been lying to him, lied to him about leaving and then never came back and then even had his grandmother lie to Nan about where he was? He went so far and he expects nothing but forgiveness?

And now all Nan has is a broken heart and a broken friendship and ten years of his life lost and all Phu can do is cry that he didn't want things to change, that he wanted things to stay the same and that's why he left him for a decade?

Phu easily could have had a chance with Nan if he just hadn't run away and now, instead, he's destroyed a lifelong friendship and hurt Nan to the core and left him alone and aching and doubting everything he's ever thought he knew or cared about and showing me Phu watching Nan desperately worry about him with his grandmother is not helping the ending.

Phu had better start trying to make it up to him rather than run away again.

Still not gonna forgive Phu for constantly being jealous of Nan making new friends after he left him for a decade. Like, of course he was going to have made new friends! You left him, you lied to him, for a decade and you're still lying to him and yet you get to be upset that he's made new friend and made even the slightest effort to move on with his life?

I do appreciate Party calling him out for that decade of disappearance, though. He's the first one, besides his grandmother and her friends, to actually point this out because Nan is too desperate to keep his friendship to ever mention it.

Watching Nan go from slowly starting to dream that his love of Phu might be returned and that there might be something more in their future to realizing that Phu has been lying to him for a decade and watching him slowly crumble and then just fall into pieces was something I experiences in my soul. To think that your long lost friend, the one that you've been searching for, the one you've been e-mailing like a ghost for a decade, the one that mattered the most to you, never actually left and asked other people to lie to you? That he never told you the truth and still won't tell you why he left only now it turns out that he left you without any trust and then he runs after you and says he didn't want anything to change? The man who left you to your own pain, to sleepless nights, to worry and fear and pain and love the tore you to pieces with fear of what you did wrong lied to you and left you without a reason and won't tell you anything... The soul crushing realization that you love him but he doesn't trust or care about you enough to do anything for a decade and all he can say is that he didn't want your friendship to change?

Phu has an uphill battle back into Nan's life and I hope he has to fight for it, make up for it, prove himself. I hope that Nan gets to be the one who pulls away and creates space and doesn't look back, I hope he goes to Party and Gie Gie and gets comforted and tells them the truth and that they can fight for him because Nan has grown and he can keep growing and Phu has to earn him back.
