Summary:
“Konoha is our home,” Naruto whispers as he stares up at him, eyes a burning blue and pupils slit like a fox. The words, unprompted as they are, sound like a vow. “The Great Tree must be protected. The rot burned away. We could not allow him to cut away an entire bough that could still be saved.”
‘Oh,’ Hiruzen thinks somewhat helplessly as he stares down at this prince of two villages that he in his weakness had left to be twisted and tainted like this, ‘oh may the gods see me damned.’

After yet another incident results in Naruto in the hospital and his assigned caretakers dead, Sarutobi gives Naruto to Danzo to raise and things take a rather abrupt step sideways.

ok but going back to the fox and earth AU im about to actually die. the whole "naruto doesn't know if he likes all this attention" thing is going to end me. like does he keep accepting it or is he just gonna start avoiding the uchihas because there are too many eyes on him and for all of his life thats been a bad thing???
Honestly a bit of both.
Because for so long attention outside of his kits has meant danger for Naruto. Has meant pain and hurt of one kind or another.
He remembers every single moment of his time with Danzo and he remembers the clawing hunger of the few short years before that in a way he’s sure most people don’t remember being so young.
So Naruto, wary and off balanced just a bit, takes to avoiding the Uchiha as best he can. Which, given who and what he is, is rather effective.
Until, that is, someone wises up and does the one thing Naruto can’t actually resist.
They send the children out after him.
A veritable hoard of tiny little Uchiha children with their chubby cheeks and thick dark hair and wide eyes that stare up at him as they ask question after question.
Sasuke, headband firmly in place and a determined expression on his face, takes the lead while Itachi lingers around the edges watching. And, genin or not, older than Naruto or not, Sasuke is still a child in Naruto’s eyes so of course he indulges him just a bit.
It quickly becomes know that if you want to get within speaking distance of Naruto and have him actually engage with/near you then the best way to do it is to have a child with you.
FOX AND HIS EARTH!!OMG!! I can see it becoming something of a problem... See, I don't think Itachi would go home and tell all about this boy he met and is ready to marry, NOW. Maybe Shisui. But Sasuke? Eventually he demands answers from his parents about almost being killed??When Mikoto and Fugaku find out where Naruto was and how he massacred Root... All hell breaks loose, she unlocks the apocalypse by telling Kakasi, and other friends of Minato and Kushina about their boy being raised by DANZO
See in my mind Sasuke knows what almost happened. He’s the son of the Clan Head after all and if anything were to happen to Itachi he would one day be head of the family.
So, young or not, Sasuke is informed. He’s in the Academy after all, on his way to being a shinobi, and if he’s old enough for one he’s old enough to know the truth about the other. Itachi wouldn’t have it any other way because this is, in many ways, about protecting his precious little brother.
He will not take the chance of Sasuke one day making the same mistakes their Father and Elders have made and that Itachi will not be there to save him.
But Sasuke, like the rest of the Uchiha Clan, was not aware of how, exactly, Danzo was punished or by whom. His death had been reported, but Sarutobi had never realeased any details, not even to his most loyal of ANBU.
One day Danzo and Root both had simply been no more, the remnants being deprogrammed and then folded into various parts of the shinobi corps.
After meeting the blond, Itachi and Sasuke both go home in a daze. Though, in part, for different reasons.
Mikoto, of course, notices something is up immediately but as neither she nor Fugaku have left the Compound or Police Headquarters today the rumors haven’t reached them yet.
That night at dinner Sasuke, of course, tells her about the boy, the one Masahiro called Papa, and what he’d said.
“He was pretty,” Sasuke admits softly. “His hair was almost gold, not like a Yamanaka’s, and his eyes? I’ve never seen blue like that. And those whiskers.”
“What?” Mikoto whispers then, face pale. “Did you say whiskers?”
“Yes,” Sasuke nods. “Here on his face, three on each side.” Sasuke trails his fingers across his own face to demonstrate. “I’ve never seen Clan markings like those.”
“That’s because they’re not Clan markings.” Mikoto’s face is tight with rage then as she abruptly stands from her place at the table.
She leaves the room and then the house without another word. Left behind at the table Fugaku lets out an uncharacteristic groan and buries his face in his hands.
Itachi and Sasuke both are mystified.

Mikoto, anger and desperation guiding her every step, only has one destination in mind.
Her feet, not slowed at all despite years out of active duty, carry her there swiftly.
Her fist falls on the thick wooden door with the force of a hammer.
Her rage could birth hurricanes.
“Uchiha-san,” Hatake Kakashi nods moments later when he opens the door to his apartment. “What brings you here?”
“Minato was your sensei and Kushina-chan almost an older sister to you,” Mikoto’s bites the words out through clenched teeth. Kakashi goes abruptly stiff because everyone knows better than to mention either name in front of him these days. “But Kushina-chan was my best friend. The Uchiha Clan allowed you to keep Obito’s gift but if you knew … Tell me you didn’t know. Swear it to me, Hatake.”
“Uchiha-san,” Hatake’s grey eye narrows sharply. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“My godson,” Mikoto hisses the name out, “Naruto.”
Everything about Hatake goes dangerously still.
“Explain,” it’s little more than a whispered growl.
And so Mikoto does.
“I think,” Hatake says with a quiet kind of violence after she recounts what Sasuke had told her, “that Hokage-sama has much explaining to do.”
Kakashi trying to nurture in his own way, leaving little presents, ruffling hair, cool jutus. Earth AU. (Itachi nearly kills him before Kakashi explains Family not Romance)
Kakashi’s not sure, exactly, how to care for this Naruto who is so like him and yet so different. Both of them grew up too fast, killed too soon, learned too much too quickly, childhoods stripped from them by blood and tragedy and pain.
But, unlike Kakashi, Naruto did it all alone. There was no support for him at all. No memories of a loving father like Kakashi had once. No team that died too early yes but had still lived and loved and been. No friends like Gai to drag him into one ridiculous scheme or another when the walls feel as if they might close in around him.
All Naruto had was blood and bone and a fox wrapped around his soul right up until the moment he decided to steal other children from the fate that had befallen him.
Kakashi isn’t sure what to do but he knows he has to do something.
So it ends up with them two being sparring partners and spending long nights discussing techniques and Kakashi introducing Naruto to a few of his favorite books.
It ends up with them in a relationship that smacks closer to friends and equals than Kakashi had ever thought possible. It ends up in something that feels almost like family in a way Kakashi had never thought he’d get to have again.
Had never thought he’d want to risk having again.
Kakashi gets into the habit of giving Naruto exactly 1 (one) head pat ever time they’re together because physical affection is supposed to help and Naruto always looks quietly awed in a way that breaks Kakashi’s heart just a bit.
And in turn Naruto continues to high-key mom Kakashi outside of their training because that’s what he knows how to do? Kill things and Mom™?
The first time Naruto delivers a homemade bento to Kakashi at the absolutely crowded Jonin rest station the room goes completely silent because holy shit.
Itachi waits for Naruto to leave and then attempts to outright murder Kakashi right then and there with no warning.
The rest station is getting absolutely demolished until Kakashi kind of eye smiles all “now now weasel-kun, that’s no way to get my approval to court my adorable little brother is it?” and Itachi’s like “oh my mistake” and stands down because brother.
Kakashi cracks open the miraculously intact bento and then they spend the next ten minutes squabbling over Itachi attempting to steal something.
The rest of the jonin are white faced in the background like “I think we all just almost died???”
How feral would Naruto get over Gaara then? A little boy raised as a monster and almost assassinated several times by order of his own father. The one thing that usually sets Naruto and Gaara apart Is that Naruto had that 1-2 people to care about, but raised by Danzo, Naruto was raised just the same
Oh oh maaaannnn.
Good luck anyone trying to get Gaara to go home/getting Naruto to let Gaara leave.
They gonna have to set up some kind of shinobi exchange program or something or just be content to wait until Gaara decides to leave on his own.
Because Naruto takes one look at those pale, haunted, raging eyes and he knows.
So Naruto does what he always does when he comes across lost children, he reaches out.
And at first Gaara is scared and angry and confused because he doesn’t understand and for once Mother is quiet and still in the back of his mind, the gnawing sandstorm of rage that swirls in his thoughts silent.
But eventually, with Naruto’s help, under Naruto’s hand, Gaara finds a measure of the two things he’s always wanted.
What sorcery is this? I wake up the the barometric pressure trying to murder me (chronic illness sucks balls fuck you Louisiana) and the warm weighted blanket that is a whole new AU. I love it! All I can see is itachi not knowing what to do with all these feeling and since I HC Uchiha as cats he starts by leaving gifts with little notes then it just snowballs from there. Naru being mystified over someone that's not one of his kits getting him things. There's so much potential for shenanigans!
Itachi is like part cat, part crow so he’s torn between his inbuilt asshole cat attitude of ‘this is mine now’ and ‘i leave you dead things’ and the crow desire to pick up shiny objects so it ends up in this massive snowball of Itachi awkwardly leaving Naruto gifts that range from like an entire side of good beef to a really pretty necklace.
Naruto has 0 idea what is going on but the kits are fuckin howling and Kakashi is torn.
I just woke up to a whole ass new AU again. Nice. 💜 and we all 100% agreed that Sasuke would definitely be Like That TM but it would be Itachi that was smitten. Obviously. Because could /Sasuke/ keep up with a Naruto from ROOT? (I mean he couldn't keep up from a Naruto OUT of ROOT but-)
It’s what we do here.
And yes! We all agree that Sasuke would be Like That™ but Itachi is 1000% Gone™.
And I think in this AU that Sasuke totally has a little fanboy crush on Naruto (because he’s way more innocent in this AU than in canon and he thinks Naruto is very very pretty) but he zips straight into being like the leader of the Itachi Needs To Marry Naruto Fanclub.
Plus Naruto takes one look at Sasuke and immediately goes ‘that’s an entire baby’ despite Sasuke technically being a few months older than him.
Sasuke’s a bit miffed in the beginning but ends up enjoying it a whole lot cause it’s hard to keep a crush going on someone who acts like your socially awkward but still loving 2nd Mom.
