Marisol knew Ray, knew what they’d been going through since the day they’d boarded the Argo (not that he kept his feelings on the subject a secret), and so they should have better predicted their reaction to the beta message. They should have anticipated how badly it would shake him, and he should have been the first person they went to... But Marisol had found that they didn’t know quite what they were feeling about the situation, themselves. It had been one of those times they needed to think about all they had just heard, to process all the information before understanding how that made sense of the sensations jolting across their mind and chest.
They’d taken a walk immediately after the meeting, to center themselves, perhaps encountered another soul or two, had conversations they could only half remember now because of the torrent of thoughts in their head. And by the time they’d gotten to the life support lab (their usual place to go to calm themselves) Ray had been outside looking a little worse for wear, and Marisol had felt their heart go out to him.
“Why don’t you wait inside the lab, and I’ll get us some coffee?” they’d suggested. And now that they had returned, they were grateful they had. Ray looked... well, he looked even more stressed out than usual, which was saying a lot. Marisol could practically feel his tension like an electric current in the air, making their hair stand on end. They set the coffee down in order to greet him with a proper hug, one that was warm and encompassing, and then pulled back, leaving a comforting hand to grip his shoulder.
“How are you feeling?” It seemed rather like an obvious question, but in Marisol’s experience, it sometimes helped people to talk their problems out, and they knew Ray was no exception. They only hoped they could help him work through whatever was going on in his own mind.
