Orion & Horsehead - SHO (Simulated), HDR image. . I am still trying to figure out the whole HDR thing -> use a shorter exposure data set to lessen the blowout on the core of a longer exposure data set to get the best of bother worlds. I think in my case, my longer exposure is too long to effectively use the shorter exposure (which in this case was also a little too long). What made this a little more difficult was using Astro Pixel Processor to extract the individual channels to make this image into a SHO Palette image. I used the Ha and Oiii extract and for Sii I used the Ha-Oiii mono. I combined in APP and processed in Photoshop . 120 x 60s 60 x 10s Darks, flats, dark flats and biases for both sets . The Orion constellation rises above Vasquez Rocks. Recently, the star Betelgeuse in Orion has lost a lot of its brightness. Our own galaxy shines brightest without the moon in the sky. Here’s a single exposure from last summer in Argentina. The Great Rift, the dark bands in the milky way, were visible to the unaided eye.
