I'll say, one of my fave headcanons is that I LOVE the idea that, since it seems kind of implied seadwellers are not on the surface that often, all the violetbloods essentially live in their own underwater city and they just have a COMPLETELY different world goin' on down there. They're so divorced from surface world shenanigans, they essentially have this whole different culture, interpersonal dynamics, etc. goin' on it's just so far removed from what any of the surface trolls are dealing with LMFAO.
Funny enough, i think a majority of it would just be "first-world problems" kinda stuff.... if you've ever watched "Selling Sunset" I feel like it'd be just like that ASLKDJSA
i noticed that your pinned mentioned you like DirkJohn! i rlly love those two together(especially in comparison to DirkJake) but i would love to hear your thoughts on why you like them together and how you think their relationship would work out!
Sure thing! I put this one under a cut too so as not to clog up anyone's feed.
Ugh I love DirkJohn. The problem with Jake is that he's really just as avoidant as Dirk, which means to me that it's more difficult for them to have a fulfilling relationship -- or even friendship. They either cannot, or will not communicate with each other. Canon shows this pretty clearly. Right off the bat, Dirk has the whole thing going on with his Autoresponder and his decapitated head. He plays mind games with Jake -- though not always on purpose -- because he can't imagine anything else working. Jake, being the passive guy that he is, goes along with it until he just . . . can't anymore.
John, meanwhile, is much more assertive, and he has a way of cutting through the bullshit. He reckoned with the likes of Karkat and Vriska, he goes with the flow but he knows where to stand his ground, unlike Jake. This means that they're already more set up for a healthy relationship than Jake and Dirk. John is way more emotionally mature. He's not an idiot, though he doesn't always think things through enough. Above all? Somehow, he manages to get the most emotionally constipated people to talk about their emotions. Rose. Dave. Vriska. Karkat. Arguably Roxy. As a nice, open guy who stands his ground but knows when to push, he is perfectly equipped for the job.
I honestly just think they'd be cute together. John would cut through Dirk's insanity, and Dirk would give John a lot to think about. They'd make a deal that John would watch MLP if Dirk watched Con Air. Dirk watches Con Air and makes a multi-slide presentation on why it's awful. John forgets to watch MLP. They're the opposites-attract situational comedy of my dreams, without all the problems I have with DirkJake and JohnDave.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk! So many thoughts on these two. It basically just boils down to "I think it would be funny".
Mmm, idk, I definitely think MC is exceptional in this case because Jumin basically uses her for emotional stability in those cases and thus needs her nearby, but Yoosung is actually very qualified and smart! He just suffers from a LOL addiction after Rika "passed". Same with Zen, boy knows how to play his assets and I can't see Jumin not seeing that potential in either of them. So at most I'd say that they get the privilege of being offered these positions first-hand
This would be a fair argument normally, except that Jumin is notably harsh and difficult to work under. Although people love him as a boss because he works himself just as hard, this is a man who will fire you for over-watering his plants by 2 ml or for moving stuff around on his desk. Ask Jaehee about how demanding it is to be his chief of staff especially. Yoosung is very qualified, but offering him a position not conditional on good grades is absolutely favoritism, and in Jaehee's after ending it's clear that Yoosung, despite his skills, really cannot keep up with his workload.
Is MC worse than Yoosung in the position? Almost certainly, thus why it's a fair argument. The only problem is that Jumin pretty much needs you to be 100% or bust, so while MC being only 50% yet retaining her position is obvious nepotism, Yoosung being 75% would also get him fired by specifically Jumin's standards if not for nepotism.
And it's some gap moe that he gives unfair advantages to his associates while he himself would never even consider getting an unfair advantage for himself, and his father implying he was given favoritism was one of the biggest insults to him on his route.
Tangential, but it's a shame many people miss that about Jumin. For all of the strict and apparently unreasonable demands he puts on Jaehee, he puts even more on himself. Which is why he's a very well loved boss by the very people you'd think would dislike him most.

for the writing prompt: fem!eridan and vriska fighting/sniping while subtly implying their gf is better
Super rough, this one. Thanks for the awesome prompt!! Absolutely obsessed with this.
"Why are you bothering me?"
The ship needed routine maintenance, and without a crew, the work fell to Vriska. She had been broken up with Eridan for two sweeps, but selling the boat would send off the wrong message. Something like "I only bought it for you" or, worse, "I can't be on the sea without thinking of you". Which, no, it wasn't that big a deal. The whole relationship was about their ancestors -- Eridan herself? Vriska could honestly care less.
That being said, the rope holding the anchor is fraying, which means that the rope that more or less holds the craft together is capable of fraying, and of course that means that Eridan is here to flaunt her imagined superiority, right when Vriska has more important things to worry about. Just great.
"That's no way to greet an old friend," Eridan's tone suggests that she is enjoying this immensely.
"Well I don't see any of those," Vriska deadpans, running the heavy rope through her point stumps and trying to simulate in her mind how long it will take for the rope to actually snap.
"You're not looking at me."
"Do you need something?" Vriska snaps, dropping the rope to the deck with a heavy thud and finally turning to her solicitor. Eridan smiles like the purrbeast with the cream, decked to the nines (eights) in heavy gold rings, a cape that kisses the deck, her long scarf, flapping in the wind, and those stupid pants. She hasn't changed at all.
"I was wonderin' if we could spar," Eridan gurgles out in her weird seadweller accent that stretches the W's into throaty waves. "Like old times."
"Do I have to?" Vriska asks, feeling like she already knows the answer. Eridan's rifle is out of its holster. It doesn't dwarf her like it did in the past, it fits nicely in her hands, she doesn't struggle to hold it up, which is dangerous to a girl down on her luck. The dice are out before Vriska has a chance to consciously think about it.
"I have a new kismesis," Eridan says conversationally. To someone else, it might've sounded casual. Vriska can tell she is practically vibrating with the excitement of it.
"Do you want me to be jealous or something? Congrats."
It's just the right thing to say to Eridan, who does want her to be jealous, who wants to be seen as a prize that everyone is vying for. She always hated Vriska blacker than Vriska could ever hate her.
With a snarl, the rifle goes off, a warning shot meant to make Vriska jump. She does not jump. The shell lands somewhere in the ocean behind her.
"Polluting?" Vriska lunges forward. "Nasty."
Dodging her prosthetic claws, Eridan sets her rifle up for the next shot. With a flick of her wrist, Vriska has an axe, heavy even distributed across both hands, one augmented. It's not a bad choice, she can move quickly with it, and it's hefty enough to work as a shield too, if she's lucky and holds it parallel to her shoulders. Either way, it'll make Eridan's job more difficult, and for that Vriska thanks the dice.
"Aren't you doing to ask who?" Eridan shoots again. It's loud, and it embeds itself into the mast of Vriska's ship. Now she's angry.
"I actually couldn't care less. Stop destroying my ship," she snaps.
"It's Sol," Eridan discloses like she's telling Vriska some great secret.
"Ew," Vriska says reflexively. "Does she even use her ablutionchamber? She's always online."
"Don't talk shit about her hygiene," Eridan gives Vriska an opening, which she gladly takes. She attempts to disarm her opponent, grabbing at her forearms and leaning on her one-handed strength. Eridan holds fast. "That's my job."
Vriska wrenches the rifle out of Eridan's grasp and chucks it overboard without a second thought.
Eridan doesn't move except to ball her hands up into fists, to shake with some sort of effervescent rage. It's not going to work on her. Vriska has a mast to take care of, rope to replace, and finances to lust after. Serves Eridan right. She goes back to her diagnostics.
"Sol is a better kismesis than you ever were," Eridan shouts.
Vriska can barely help rolling her eyes. "I find that hard to believe."
"Like you'd know. You don't even have a kismesis. I was the only one. You can't compare at all. I bet that makes you angry."
Vriska sighs, deciding that she's not going to get any work done as long as Eridan is here. "Your information is outdated."
"What?"
"Yeah, I've been with Terezi for ages. Not sure where you're getting your intel. The same place you got the scoop when we were FLARPing? That explains a lot."
Eridan mouths something -- there might be words behind it, but Vriska can't hear her over the crashing waves. Nor does she particularly want to hear.
"Terezi, huh?"
"Yeah. She's a lot less pathetic than you. I couldn't even hate you right, you were just always so pitiable. Platonically, of course. I never really wanted to fix your soggy ass."
Eridan is gaping now, like a fish.
"Sol doesn't pity me at all. Her hatred for me is the blackest variety. Darker than the pitted trenches of the sea. It's not your run-of-the-mill hatred, it's the type they write sonnets about. Epics," she quite literally spits. Flecks of saliva fly out from behind her teeth. It's disgusting.
"Cool," Vriska pretends to dislodge something out from under her nails. "Are you done yet?"
"You know what? Yeah. Fuck you, Vris," Eridan turns with a dramatic sweep of her cape. She spits right onto the deck before jumping off the side after her rifle.
It might, Vriska reflects, be time to sell this piece of junk before Eridan takes its value down further.
You really went and asked all the difficult ones! I'm going to put this under a cut because it will get long.
11. Least favorite kid?
Jake. I know he's thematically important but he annoys me so much 😭 I can't help seeing him as a source of tension in his friend group, despite the fact that he actively despises their romantic advances. I used to dislike all of the alpha kids, but the other three have grown on me a lot. I don't think I actively dislike any of them anymore, but Jake is difficult for me to really enjoy as a character.
12. Least favorite troll?
Tavros. I know, I know, it's absolutely horrible that the Vriska fan dislikes Tavros. Again, I don't actively dislike any of the trolls, Tavros just fails to captivate me. Everyone else I've had phases for. Tavros? Well. He never really got a chance to make anything of himself, which is mostly the narrative and Vriska's fault, but as a result, he's just a difficult character for me to enjoy.
18. NOTP?
This is a difficult one!! I don't interact with a lot of ship content for pairings I don't like, so I've actually forgotten any more niche pairings I don't ship. The most popular ships I dislike are probably DaveKat and DirkJake. I have my reasons for them both, but it mostly comes down to the fact that a lot of times, when a pairing gets popular, bad content for them becomes really prevalent and difficult to avoid.
I used to be a DaveKat shipper around the time of Homestuck^2, but most of the content I see for it feels really out of character -- even in Homestuck^2 itself, I was just really starved for content. Another thing that contributes to my dislike of this ship is a huge rise of people getting into the fandom just to ship DaveKat. The "yeah I skipped to act 4, got bored, and went to AO3" sort that DaveKat tends to attract. Not a criticism of the ship itself, it just makes it unpalatable for me.
I think it's in part because, when you refuse to see your favorite pair outside of the context of shipping them together, they lose a lot of what makes them individuals. I see this for most ships, but particularly very popular pairings. DirkJake is the same for me, plus their canon relationship is really . . . less than ideal in a way that I don't care to imagine salvaging because I don't enjoy Jake as a character.
Alright, one TWO more that I just remembered from the earlier days. JohnDave. To me they're friends! Very good friends. Best bros, even. I love to imagine their silly and wicked cool antics, I don't like to imagine them together -- which is really ironic, actually, because I found out what fanfiction was after googling something related to Homestuck for an essay I was writing for fun, which, of course, led me straight to some JohnDave.
FINALLY, EriSol also used to be a NOTP . . . ECIP actually started out because I was asking myself the question: how can I make these two work? Now I am, for better or worse, a bona fide EriSol shipper. It's not the worst thing in the world!
31. What do you think of the ancestors?
I don't think they were explored enough for me to have a big opinion on them. In my opinion, they were most important to canon in how they shaped the trolls. For example, Mindfang's role as a role model for Vriska, and how these historical figures shaped the FLARPing and relationships of their ecto-offspring. They also provide a lot of historical context for Alternia, but I honestly can't see them as characters in and of themselves.
寝坊する(ねぼうする ; nebousuru) - to oversleep, sleep in late
ex. 寝坊をしたので、朝の授業に間に合いませんでした。(nebou wo shita no de, asa no jyugyou ni ma ni aimasendeshita) - Since I overslept I couldn't make it in time for my morning class.
ex. たいてい寝坊している。(taitei neboushiteiru) - I usually sleep in late.
