Picked up my order from the bookstore today and found another gem I needed to buy!!! Its a collection of poems, secrets and old tales about trees and what they are/had been worshipped as back then. I've also seen another one that seemed fairly interesting, it was called "Der Geschmack von Laub und Erde: Wie ich versuchte, als Tier zu leben" from Charles Foster. I think the original title is "Being a Beast: Adventures Across the Species Divide" but yeah! It was right beside the tree Book so Im gonna read the intro page and maybe Ill get it next week!

Comic Book Saturday

What can I say, I was raised on Osmosis Jones. Making bodily things into pictures definitely works for the grey matter in my head (and the neurons).

It’s basically a comic all about neurons. As the book says, neurons are related to almost every single thing that happens in our body, but, we are only starting to really know the whys and hows of it. This comic takes us on a sorta trippy, definitely cool journey through the neurons, and memories, and everything that makes us human so human (we think). An awesome read.

I was at the library where I was innocently seduced by this shiny foil cover. Then yesterday I picked it up to read because I was feeling self-conscious about how long it is taking me to read The Making of the Atomic Bomb. And I am sorry to say that I was not impressed. It was written by two neuroscientists, so I am sure that the information was good, but the framing story was so tired and heteronormative and EVERY authority was an old white man (I know the authorities were based on the actual scientists who made the discoveries, but you couldn’t find ONE woman or BIPOC or visibly disabled person who made an important contribution? (But there was a topless mermaid and a boobs and butt posing neurotransmitter in skin-tight clothes, and OH WAIT! THE ENTIRE PLOT IS DRIVEN BY NAMELESS DUDE’S QUEST TO FIND NAMELESS GIRL HE BRIEFLY SAW IN A PARK, SO I GUESS CHICKS ARE IMPORTANT!) . Maybe I am being overly harsh. This is a great comic that teaches you all about the fundamentals of Neuroscience!! As a psych major and graphic novel lover!! I LOVED IT
