Jill and Luna fluttered around you, preparing you for the momentous day. But you didn’t find yourself sharing the same nerves or excitement. You simply let them lead you through the process, going and moving however they directed.
You had been in a bit of a mood since the incident with Hux. The altercation left you angry with not just him, but your husband as well. No sooner than when your group reached the castle did the two of you begin to fight. Kylo jumps off his horse and stomps in front of yours, effectively stopping your stead.
“What the hell were you thinking? I told you to stay in the castle!”
“And am I just supposed to blindly follow orders? I wanted to know what was happening at our gates.”
Kylo’s face grows tense with anger as you climb off your horse and begin walking into the castle.
“That could have been a serious altercation. You could have gotten hurt!”
You turned to face him, your brows furrowed.
“That doesn’t change anything. You should have listened to me. You can’t just defy my orders!”
At that, you stop mid-step. You don’t even turn to face him as your voice drops to an icy snarl.
“I don’t take orders from you, or anyone. It might be best if you remember that.”
Since then, very few words have been shared between the two of you. The tense could be felt throughout the castle.
But despite it, the show must go on.
You were escorted to the throne room by four of the knights. They flanked you at your sides, creating an impenetrable border around you. As you approached the broad, wooden doors you took in a deep breath. Cardo turns to look at you, giving your arm a small nudge.
“You’ve got this. Shoulders up and brave face, kid.”
You can only give him a small nod before the doors swing open.
Those in attendance get to their feet and turn to watch as you make your way down the aisle. At the end standing in front of his throne stood Kylo. He adorned his mantle, the cape laying down past his feet. His crown placed perfectly amongst his curls. He looked the part of King of Chandrila.
Standing at either end of the platform holding the thrones are the other two knights. Vicrul gives you a silent nod as you approach.
Kylo is watching you, his face set in a neutral expression. He holds his hand out for you to take, leading you up the platform a few feet in front of the thrones. Kylo comes beside you and everyone takes their seats. You close your eyes and take another deep breath as he begins.
“Today, Y/N Ren is brought before you as my wife. But she will leave here as your queen. She will be crowned by my hands before you all and swear her oaths.”
He takes a moment before he continues.
“Coronations have been done by a member of my family for centuries. Each of us is crowned by a respective member holding power before them. My grandfather was crowned by his father, my mother crowned by him. I would have been crowned by my mother had she not met her untimely death. It is an honor to carry on that tradition today and crown my wife, Y/N.”
Kylo turns towards you and holds his left hand out to you. In return, you move to face him and place your hand in his. You’d rehearsed this a few times now, but it couldn’t have prepared you for the real thing. Your nerves were in a frenzy. You were certain Kylo could feel the sweat in your palm.
He grabs your attention by giving your wrist a light touch with the tips of his fingers. You look up to meet his awaiting gaze.
Kylo gives you a small smile and whispers to you.
You give him a small nod in answer, your eyes locked with his.
“Y/N Ren, will you solemnly promise and swear to govern the people of Chandrila according to their respective laws and customs?”
“Will you to your power cause Law and Justice, in Mercy, to be executed in all your judgement?”
“Do you swear to protect and defend the kingdom of Chandrila with your life?”
With that, Vicrul carries up a mantle of similar style to Kylo’s, albeit much smaller. Kylo takes a hold of it and wraps it around your form, securing it at the front. He turns you towards the crowd as Trudgen carries your crown atop a plush cushion. Kylo takes the crown and comes behind you.
“With your oath sworn, I now crown you Queen of Chandrila.”
At his words, you feel the crown placed on your head. You stand all and face the guest as they gawk at you in awe. Kylo comes to your side and motions for them all to rise.
At Kylo’s bellow, everyone falls to one knee, dropping their head down in a bow. All you can hear is repeated chants.
“All hail the Queen! All hail the Queen! All hail the Queen!”
You traded your royal regalia for a flowing dress and your crown. It was more appropriate for the reception you now wandered around. You were nursing a glass of wine, watching the guests mingle and dance. You glanced around at the decorations Jill and Luna had done. You had to admit, you were pretty impressed. Everything was beautiful. A perfect set up to go along with the one you had created between you and Kylo.
Appearances were everything and the stakes were higher with a crown on your head. You and Kylo had pranced around the room thanking guests for coming and pretending as if everything is alright between you.
You’d finally broken apart to get some space. As you made your way towards the buffet where snacks still sat out, you spotted Lizzie and Julia chatting near the balcony doors. You greet them both and exchange hugs.
“Look at that thing on your head, it must way a fuck ton!” Lizzie says giggling.
You can’t help but laugh along nodding in agreement.
“It’s a bit heavy, but not that bad.”
As you continue talking, you can’t help but notice Julia glancing at Vicrul every now and then. As you turn to look, Vicrul is practically drooling at the sight of her. Lizzie catches your gaze as well, smirking at you.
“Hey Julia, could you come with me for a moment? I believe there's someone I need to introduce you to.”
Julia’s eyes widen a bit but she nods and follows you. You loop your arm in hers and lead her right toward Vicrul. He notices you coming his way and quickly straightens, brushing off his suit and pretending to look distracted. You couldn’t help but roll your eyes.
You stop in front of him and smirk.
“Vicrul, this is my friend Julia. I believe you too have been drooling over each other all night.”
Julia gasps and elbows you as Vicrul coughs and covers his smirks. After he collects himself, he holds his hand out to Julia to take. He places a light kiss on her knuckles and smiles at her.
“It is an honor to meet you, Julia. Would you like to dance with me?”
Julia is practically beaming, her cheeks a rosy tint and eyes glittering up at him. She nods her head and allows him to lead her away towards the dance floor.
You smirk, spotting another couple out on the floor. Trudgen and Jill are near the middle of the floor. He twirls her around and around as she laughs up at him. You watch them for a moment as they laugh and flirt as if no one is watching.
That is until you feel someone come to stand beside you. You turn your head a bit and see Kylo standing to your left. He gazes out at the floor as well, simply watching alongside you.
He clears his throat to grab you attention.
“Would you care to dance with me?”
You simply take his hand and lead him towards the other groups of people dancing. The two of you begin to waltz, many of those in attendance stopping to watch.
Kylo smiles down at you as he spins you around.
“You look gorgeous tonight. I love how Luna has done your hair.”
You reply with a simple thank you and continue to move around the floor with him. It was clear he was trying to start some type of conversation with you. Attempting to break the ice. But it just wasn’t going to work.
Kylo sighs and looks past her over her shoulder, trying to keep his frustration at bay.
“Would you please allow me to defend myself? My actions come from a concerned place.”
You simply continue to ignore him. Praying this song will be over soon so you can end this conversation before it escalates.
“Y/N, I don’t want you getting involved and getting hurt. I can’t risk that. You need to understand that.”
You’d had enough. You’d reached your limit of hearing ignorant words and putting on fake smiles. If he wanted to do this now, than so be it.
“I am not the one that is lacking understanding. If I’m meant to stay out of it and be left behind, how can I assist? How can I be of service? If that is the way you want this it certainly does not make us equals.”
Kylo’s eyebrows forrow as he begins to speak again. You sure, to spew some more defense on how he’s right. But you are done with this.
“I want to be involved in everything or I don’t want any of this.”
The music stops as you pull away from Kylo’s grasp and storm out of the ballroom, leaving Kylo standing alone on the dancefloor.
