Of all the cities that resulted from colonialism and the industrial revolution, #newcastleaustralia is anomalous for its proximity to something societies have only come to value in recent decades: surf. Even then, a sand and salt-blasted headland, between the city and the actual surf breaks, was left barren except for a prison and fort. It was not until the early 1900s that Newcastle's sand hills were developed with rows of Victorian #terrace houses, and turned into a micro settlement, now called #Newcastleeast. We bought here at the end of the 1990s, when places were still cheap, and have watched many things change, but some things just age, and even then, barely. One is Bron's place, where I love to take photos. The other is my neighbour Glen, who I swear is as young now as when I first saw him. Right now, as i'm dealing with my first real rush of production and demand for my swimsuits, I'm tempted to start thinking of a factory space bigger than simply the downstairs half of my house. Must i though? What if, instead of supplying everyone who clicked their fingers in Spring for a swimsuit, i capped production, with waiting lists, weekly quotas, and the likes? There's a joy, ill admit, to making money, especially given the money and time I have put into this passion. But there is also a joy in working with my neighbors and friends all around me, at a pace consistent with my actual goal, of designing, prototyping and slowly producing better and better swimsuits, in what you might call a votive manner, or simply in a manner that shows respect for this place. #crossroads #thoughtfortheday #newcastleaustralia #newcastle #oldhouse #victorian #sunlight #sartorial #slowfashion #mensfashion #menswear #swimwear #onepiece #onepieceswimsuit (at Newcastle, New South Wales) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFl1zrmDCtX/?igshid=xv5maetk2snr
