Okay. Short answer: it was… mixed. It started out fine, and all things considered things went smoothly, at least in terms of health!! But emotionally. uh. Far from it
I kind of touch on it in what i have of my cass fic so far, actually, but it’s obviously very brief…
For starters this ties into a few headcanons i have— first of which is that arianna and willow are actually identical twins, and the second is that rapunzel’s family has a history of pre-eclampsia, which, in arianna’s case, developed into eclampsia, and is why she almost died having rapunzel.
Arianna had it worst, but rapunzel’s grandmother also didn’t do well, especially since she was having twins! She survived the birth, but I think passed fairly early on in arianna and willow’s lives due to long term complications.
Because of this, ukd initially planned to adopt, actually. Rapunzel was very unsure if she actually wanted to get pregnant at all due to that risk. But the twins were kind of a surprise!! And rapunzel immediately decided she did want to take that risk for them.
She was optimistic at first! They had plenty of wholesome moments and raps absolutely loved the early months especially— knowing she was literally Creating Life was so exciting to her. Even as time went on she was always talking and singing to them and the worst part was really just how fucking pissed off she was every once in a while. Mood swings didnt make her super weepy (although that did still happen sometimes) as much as they just made her So Fucking Pissed All The Time
The later months though— she struggled a lot more. She also started getting very restless— that stuff srsly takes a toll on you, and it was even worse with twins. She was honestly miserable by the third trimester. She started feeling a lot more fatigued, and headaches became very common, and sometimes she didn’t want to do anything but lie in bed. And everyone Freaked out. Now DON’T WORRY rapunzel didn’t actually develop pre-eclampsia but they were all REALLY FUCKING SCARED she would. So she was kinda forcefully bedbound for the next three months straight— and was doted on a lot, to the point of it being overbearing, and i think we know that is Not something rapunzel would be happy about
She started to feel like she was trapped again— and worst of all, she was talking to her mom a lot, and she started recalling all the things arianna said she used to do, her hobbies and interests, how similar they were— and realized that arianna gave up All of that to be queen and have her. She had better days too and frankly that made it WORSE bc she still Wasn’t allowed to go anywhere really!!! The feeling of restlessness and anxiety culminated into this dread and fear that motherhood would just be another cage… the same way marriage felt at first. I think she was always afraid of that which is why they waited several years to have kids (rapunzel was 27 when the twins were born, I honestly can’t see her having kids before 25, girlie needs a few years to LIVE). But by the end of her pregnancy it all kinda hit her like a semitruck, and she realized how scared she was at the worst possible time, because there was no way she could back out now (and she didn’t want to, either.)
Rapunzel was scared, everyone else was scared, it was overall Not a fun few months for anyone involved….. cass and eugene were very overprotective and hovering over her all the time, i think frederic and arianna actually went to varian and Just in case tried to ask him if he could find something that could maybe save her if worst came to worst, since they didn’t have the sundrop flower anymore. They figured since he had access to the eternal library, he had to know something (spoiler alert: there was nothing, but varian sure as hell overworked himself to death for like two months straight trying because by gods he would Die for rapunzel). NOBODY was having fun!!!!
The night of the birth was one of the family’s most stressful nights in years. Nobody slept that night fr. The moment the twins were born and both they and rapunzel were perfectly healthy everyone in that damn castle felt the relief of a 100 pound weight falling off their shoulders
Rapunzel still struggled a lot with postpartum depression after the birth… but the most important thing was that everyone was alive and healthy and everyone did everything in their power to keep her as comfortable as possible afterwards. Alina especially was much weaker than ryder and struggled to latch so that did scare them a lot— but ofc she ended up being okay. Rapunzel was incredibly happy though and loved the twins very much, she knew it was worth it, but she did immediately decide she would literally NEVER do that again and EVERYONE was in unanimous agreement
I’d also love to know a little bit more about Astra and Lorena!
Finally some time for me to talk about my girls!!! (also I just mean time in my life, it's been a crazy couple of months)
So we will start with Astra Constantine
Astra is the only child (as of this moment) of John Constantine and Zatanna Zatara.
Shortly after her birth, as in like hours, she was kidnapped by a demonic entity that was hell bent (no pun intended) on making both Constantine and Zatanna suffer for the good they're tried to do in the world. They went three years without know whatever happened to their baby girl.
One day, while the Legends were battling a cult devoted to Mallus, they came across this toddler, who Zatanna instantly knew as her missing daughter. The cult had been given the child and told she would be the vessel for the return of Mallus and it was their duty as devout followers to ensure the child was ready for sacrifice upon her third year.
The child had been given the name Astra, another jab at Constantine, about the girl he once failed to save, and to 'prove' to him he would always be doomed to repeat his same mistakes. Only this time watching his own child be consumed by evil.
Thanks to the wonderful quick thinking of the rest of the legends team, and Nyssa literally willing to stare a crazed demon cult leader down, saying something along the lines of 'If the Demon's head did not frighten me, what makes you think you're pathetic excuse for worship stands a chance?' they recover their child and take her with them.
Not wanting to scar the child further she retains the name Astra, but John and Zatanna decide to giver her the middle Nyssa, as a way of thanking her for saving their child.
Astra spent the next 15-16 years living with her parents on and off the Waverider, depending on the missions at hand. Each year she grew more powerful in her craft, to the point that Constantine and Zantanna wonder if the entity that took her didn't do something to magnify her magic in someway.
On her 18th birthday Astra received a vision imploring her that she must find a way to stop the demon Mallus from returning. Because his followers are still wide spread, and if they succeed in bringing him back, she will die.
So she often teams up with Delilah Morningstar to go on solo missions to track down rogue cult members in order to save her eternal soul from being destroyed by a demon.
Now on to my Lorena Bertinelli
Lorena is the daughter of the notorious anti-hero/parttime? crimelord Helena Bertinelli and Duke Reginald Lancaster. Yep.... for a brief time Helena almost let the few men remaining her her family line dictate how her future would shape after prison. Get betrothed to a affluent man, have a few heirs, one of course for the Duke and a second to take over the Bertinelli family business. Shortly after Helena learned of her pregnancy she discovered Reggie was also being influenced into this betrothal from his own family, looking to make political gains with an american crime family in their back pocket. She also learned he still was not over his ex. So the two mutually decided to part ways.
Reggie soon married said ex (name redacted because i don't know it's been discovered yet), and the two went on to have at least one son with each other (look i know he has other kids but like... i can't finds the notes on them).
Helena then returned to Star City several months pregnant and regained control over her family's business with the help of fellow crime boss/gang leader Grey (first name redacted but this time I know it, i just don't think we've revealed it in a story yet). She wanted nothing more than for her and Lorena to reign over the crime families together and show the men that women could, and would do it better.
Sometime during Lorena's childhood, Grey called upon Helena for a favor, he had recently taken in a young street kid into his gang, and while the kid had promise, the boy also had a little sister who wouldn't do well in the world alone. Lorena over heard the man remind Helena, that there were still favors she owed him for her current position over the families, and this would go a long way in clearing that debt. Helena agreed to his request and soon Venetia came to live with them, and was adopted into the Bertinelli family. And though Lorena could see her relatives looks of unrest at Helena bringing a child with no blood ties into the family fold, none of them spoke a word against it.
As Lorena grew she started to see the gray areas her mom operated in as places she didn't want to go. Determined not to end up like her family, she contacted her bio father for his assistance in paying for university so she could study law and become a lawyer. She knew if she used the Bertinelli money they would feel like they could pressure her to break the law instead of uphold it.
And because I love them I'm gonna add this bit in, Lorena met Owen Queen in a crappy dive bar one of her 2nd or 3rd cousins own. He was there to see a band, alone, on his birthday. She thought he was cute. They met, talked, hooked up.... then she discovered he was the little brother of one of her best friend's Mia Queen.
By then the both were a little too far in their feelings to stop.

OOOH weeeeell i will say alina is a HUGE daddys girl LOL
Alina had always just clung onto eugene for rlly no reason, but he lovessss listening to all of eugenes stories and just following him around in general. alina likes eugene, hugo and lance a lot…he thinks theyre literally the coolest people ever. eugene and lance dont talk abt any of the thief stuff, but the kids still can tell theyve got some kind of Mysterious past and know all sorts of cool secrets and teach them to pick locks and shit. and alina especially LOVES it.
he has a huge interest in detectives and mystery genre stuff, and although eugene isn’t the captain of the guard here, he still kinda retains his former position of just helping out with tough cases every once in a while. alina gets his interest in law and allat from All his parents ofc (one angry princess, fitzherbert PI, that one comic, etc…) but eugene kinda was a lot more…Idk Whimsical abt it is the best way i can describe it. Cassandra was very matter of fact abt things but eugene was better at playing along w him and stuff
He would let alina sit w him while he worked and would kinda inform her of what he was doing while playing it up a little for dramatic effect and asking for her “input” on things. she was his little assistant. He read all her favorite murder mystery books to her once she got a little older. Alinas also the rebellious one as a teenager, and eugene is THRILLED to see him calling out nobles on their bullshit but, just like rapunzel and cass, is also constantly scared shitless that he’s gonna start a war or something so he often has to smooth talk his way around him GAHAHAHAHA

Ryder… see ryder was super clingy and cuddly as a baby but as soon as he could move around on his own he was a leash child. he and rapunzel have the same autism so they simultaneously drive each other crazy and also get along like a house on fire, so a lot of times she unintentionally riles him up more, and eugene and/or cass usually got stuck holding the rope
Ryder however is the most style savvy of the ukd kids. Ilmari has some colors and styles they like but they don’t care that much abt what they wear, and alina…Well lets just say alina would look a LOT worse if it weren’t for the fact that ryder chooses/designs a lot of his clothes 😭
Once ryder got really into sewing and fashion design at around 12 and that was always what he and eugene bonded over best…..ryder raids eugenes closet all the time and gets a lot of input from him abt his designs
he also loved a lot of girly stuff his siblings didnt care as much about. He was the one who was dragging eugene to play dress up and tea parties with him (although it might eventually progress into playing war. as is typical with children). eugene loves his spunkiness and energy as much as it drives him crazy sometimes. also rapunzel’s genetics were lowkey slacking on both the twins but ryder especially. aside from his eyes and hair and the Autism that boy is just all eugene. thats his twin LOL
Although ryder becoming more closed off as a teenager makes him kind of a loser (affectionate) and eugene is always rlly trying to pull him out of his shell more…he rlly worries abt him. He doesn’t expect him to be a huge rebel or anything but he doesn’t want him to lose that spark he got from rapunzel…..🥲
and ILMARIII Gah i need to draw eugene and raps with ilmari more…i need to draw ukd with all the kids more in general…i feel like its very easily forgotten that they’re also rapunzel and eugene’s kid too and not just cass’s….💔
I think eugene was the second person ilmari warmed up to after cass, just cuz he’s used to dealing with kids in similar positions. Ilmari was very adultified as a kid, so they hated being treated like a child…and eugene was very good at figuring out how to treat them in a way that didnt make them feel condescended while still not actually treating them like an Adult, eventually allowing the three of them to lean into a more nurturing approach.
Ilmari spent a lot of time with varian and hugo in the library tbh cuz they’re super into history and magic and stuff (i think they actually learned to do some magic though probably not much)…So eugene would always tease the two of them abt how they made his kid a NERD…..But he loves ilmari very dearly and fully supports their interests. As long as they’re safe abt it. He’s kind of a mother hen type LOL.
They obviously became independent pretty fast but that didn’t stop eugene (or the other two either honestly) from being a little overbearing LOL. Once ilmari leaves the nest though they’re gonna become a lot like cassandra, very vigilante type beat. eugene will wholeheartedly encourage their crimes GAHAHAHAHHAA. “Look im just saying the guy had it coming” /J. they wouldn’t kill anyone. probably.
Eugene has it rough bc part of him desperately wants to encourage those kids to go crazy and destroy the system but the responsible part sees them doing crazy rebellious teenager stuff and is PANICKING
He loves emery too although he is a little weirded out by her but like. everyone is. and everyone in that family is fucking weird so nobody can talk. thats just how it is. But he does sometimes look at varigo like. “man WHAT is up with your kid”
Emery is a teenager tho they have youngest child syndrome and a lot of typical teenage girl issues…so they get a little more distant from the rest of the family as they get older… but they love all of them
But like, varigo and ukd’s families are SUPER intertwined. obviously. Honestly a lot of the time emery is more like a little sister to the ukd kids than a cousin. Sometimes they’ll come over for dinner and emery will fall asleep in the twins’ room and varian and hugo are just like. “What the hell. Sleepover time i guess. We’ll pick her up in the morning” /silly
Eugene still does the typical uncle stuff though like telling them embarrassing stories abt their parents and encouraging them to say shit that they know will piss var and hugo tf off. He takes great pride in it
Overall eugene loves kids, the kids all love him, its all good…eugene’s GREAT with kids in general. He’d ofc spent a lot of time before they had kids just reading to kids in the orphanage, even eventually reading his own books he wrote…his actual kids never had an interest in anything he’d written, unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried LMAO, but obviously he got them all into the flynn rider books when they were little bc that was Necessary. Hed do all the voices and try and act out the scenes, lance would often get in on it too….theyd pull these elaborate stunts and it was MAGICAL for the kids. and then he’d complain about back pain and cass would make fun of him and his fucking old man bones
Eugene also, of course, tried to convince them he was the real guy. Not his thieving alias— no, he’s genuinely trying to convince them he’s just. the guy from the book. and it worked until they were about like 6. and when they realized he wasn’t it was like the equivalent of them finding out santa wasn’t real they were SO PISSED.
I think they would have believed it longer, but when emery came into the picture and eugene tried to convince Her, she went back to varian excitedly telling him about it and that was var’s last straw. He didn’t care when it was eugene’s own kids that’s not his problem but leave emery out of that. so emery found out immediately and had to tell the other kids the devastating news. LMFAOAOAOA
i think eugene out of the three of them is the most protective, and like we saw in “you’re kidding me” he’s obviously the most stern at times. The best way i can explain it is like…eugene’s the one who scolds them most often so they’re used to it. cass doesn’t care as much but when she does get mad shes fucking SCARY, so theyre a little more intimidated by her….But RAPUNZEL? Boy if you piss off rapunzel you need to Run
he’s emotional both ways though, he can lose his patience or his temper sometimes but he’s also always the one crying like a baby at every little tender moment. i think in a lot of ways hes very bandit heeler coded. chili and bandit are new dream actually like nobody can convince me otherwise

To be completely honest it rlly depends on the point in the timeline…..starting by the time the twins are like 13 to when theyre like 21 all of their relationships are. Kinda fucked 😭😭😭😭 But umm starting with childhood…ofc since theyre twins, alina and ryder have always been pretty much joined at the hip LOL. Alina ofc was very shy, timid, and kind of a crybaby when she was little, and she hated being alone, so since ryder was much more sociable and eccentric hed usually speak up for her and look after her.
they slept in the same bed from like. Birth to probably about 8 years old. For the first like 6 years of their life it was honestly concerning to find them separated LOL. That being said I dont think they’re Closer to each other than they are to ilmari— as soon as ilmari came along the twins were so fascinated by them. they ADORED them and would always follow them around like little ducklings. it took ilmari a while to warm up but they very quickly became a little trio. they obviously still squabble like any siblings would but theyre all incredibly close
I dont think ryder clicks as well w ilmari as alina does, though…at least not at first. alina bonded with ilmari sooner than ryder did because of his more quiet and softspoken demeanor— ryder on the other hand highkey overwhelmed them at first 😭😭 He was obviously a huge chatterbox as a kid and ilmari was VERY put off by that. ryder did quickly learn to quiet down and approach them more gently, though, and things ended up going just fine
alina and ryders roles kinda switched when they were around 11 and allie rlly started to take note of the pedestal the court put ryder on + the pressure it put on him. alina has always been more disregarded especially Because of that shy nature he had when when she was little— he fits right into that “timid little girl who needs protected by her strong older brother” thing going on, which is why he rebels against it extra hard and refuses to show any emotion but Rage for a while. ryder on the other hand is the #1 overthinker and people pleaser and is 100% willing to change himself to please others…so he masks HEAVY to become that “perfect prince” the court expects him to be. unfortunately that leads to him disregarding the things that actually matter like yk. The people he’s meant to lead
Long story short as ryder falls deeper into this hole and his internalized ableism gets Worse, he starts to look down on alina, seeing him as incredibly reckless and undiplomatic. allie feels really betrayed, since they promised they’d always face everything together…so in tandem he sees ryder as rlly stuck up and pompous. the thing is they’re both right…they’re both on opposite ends of an extreme and they need Balance, but they don’t realize that until they’re finally out of their teen years LOL
Ryder and ilmari are… a little more complicated. ryders always REALLY really looked up to ilmari. they seem like everything He wants to be— calm, collected, calculated, always knows what to do all the time….. but they’re. Not really that. and the truth is ilmari admires HIM for the opposite reasons— they wish they could be more empathetic and effortlessly understanding of people. but unlike ryder, ilmari sees the cracks in his persona and his struggles,,, and they worry. but at the same time ilmari is…kind of a mess
They want to feel Useful and Needed but they also tend to distance themselves away from conflict. they leave the nest RIGHT as alina and ryder’s relationship starts going downhill— and ilmari was very much a grounding force for the two of them so it makes things. Much worse. Worst thing is, they dont tend to think about the fact that like…people actually care abt them and want to hear how theyre doing so aside from a few gifts and visits home occasionally they don’t,,,, really write,,, or anything for that matter. this is rough on both the twins. alina gets REALLY pissed off at them but ryder just tends to blame himself…he thinks he did something to upset them 💔
MENTAL ILLNESSES ASIDE THOUGH /silly theyre my little trio,,, and i dont talk abt them all together enough but its mostly Because ilmari is so absent😭😭 Emotionally unavailable older sibling core,,,,, but since they were little they’ve always been inseparable. the twins have a Special bond because well…they’re twins. but they don’t love each other any more or less than ilmari. thats why ilmari leaving right at their worst years hits them so hard!!!

Uhhh. Basically. Ryder is the golden child whos really expressive and energetic like raps but very anxious and neurotic. He’s honestly kind of the straight man of yhe group. Most people think it’s ilmari but this is Wrong. Eldest child syndrome despite being the middle child. Workaholic but he fucking hates his job. Stressed out 24/7 and hasn’t slept in 2 weeks. needs to be liked by EVERYONE or he will DIE.
Alina is the baby she’s kinda varian and cass core. Always in the shadow of ryder or ilmari, but shes had support where it matters, so she’s never really cared. She was the shy quiet kid growing up but now he is full of Rage. very clingy, headstrong and stubborn. Strong leader and always tries to take control but his older siblings dont rlly take him seriously. Kind of a smartass and a drama queen but specifically in an old hollywood detective kind of way
ilmari……quiet, blunt, dry and emotionally unavailable. Horse girl and the king of not giving a fuck. they’re a free spirit, and since they were the first to leave the nest theyre always just kinda Wandering. Doesn’t speak unless spoken to. They typically come off as very weird and unsettling, but they are very gentle and compassionate when it comes down to it, they’re just Bad at feelings. They’re silly i promise but they have that like dry ass adira ttpe humor.
I think one of the main reasons the twins are so hard for me to describe is bc i’ve failed to disclose their Main Gimmick, which is that they’re meant to start out as the the typical boy/girl twin trope— where ones shy, anxious and kinda nerdy, and the other one is charismatic, eccentric and extroverted— but by their teenage years, they’ve pretty much completely swapped in every regard: fashion sense and presentation, personality, mannerisms, etc.
they both have some core traits that are stuck to them for their entire lives, and are obviously still undeniably the same characters, but their overall archetypes kind of swap entirely.
as little kids, alina is the timid, reserved, kind of fluttershy-esque type, and is a bit more of the observant, logical “by-the-books” one. meanwhile ryder is the bouncy, outspoken wild child, to the point of being kind of ditzy and careless at times, but hes very emotional and has no trouble making his voice heard.
as they get older, though, alina, with a strong support system, is eventually able to find his voice and speak up for himself, and after years of being silent, he becomes kind of the rebel of the family. he’s intelligent, calculated, and very stubborn about what he believes in. plus, shes spent most of her life observing, so she has a very good understanding of whats going on around her- and a passion for leadership that’s reminiscent of cassandra’s. alina ends up being a very hardheaded, outspoken and emotional individual who’s eager to take a stand and is deeply afraid of being a burden on her loved ones, or worse, never accomplishing anything at all. She is also Soooo fucking angry like all the time and she NEEDS constant validation SO BAD or she will DIE. #Teenagerthings.

Change and/or destroy himself to meet other peoples expectations. this is why he is a horrible choice for coronas heir and unfortunately, because hes REALLY good at masking, it takes everyone WAY TOO LONG to realize this. Even when he learns some decent coping mechanisms ryder always remains kind of a workaholic, neurotic and anxious person. Massive perfectionist also. he has ISSUES. 😭😭😭

Ilmaris honestly so so SO bad at feelings they are so distant but i swear they TRY THEIR BEST they just have AUTISM 😭🙏Unlike the twins ilmari doesn’t really have a huge change in character LOL…But i need to talk more about the trios dynamic, cuz they’re all VERY close especially when they were little. Once ilmaris traveling on their own, though, their relationship is a little more strained……..like i said ilmari is very much a wanderer, and they don’t write much either. Obviously they send like monthly letters to ukd out of obligation (cass and eugene especially get CRAZY paranoid otherwise…..) as well as some gifts to the family whenever they can but. Their letters highkey read like business emails LOL.
Ilmaris in a weird place where they do truly care about their family but like….They still feel a big disconnect from their identity and relationships in general. The emotional neglect from their birth mother and the autism have mixed together in the worst way possible and emotions are just never something they really Get.
I think especially in early adulthood they dont really have anywhere where they truly feel like they belong- So they kinda just fuck off to do whatever. They don’t see much of a need to communicate with anyone, mostly cuz i dont think it clicks in their head that people might Want to know about that stuff GAHAHAHAAHA
