Better than fighting

Draco stood stunned mouth gaping open, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing, his lover of 3 years had just turned and walked away without a word, without a fight. Never did he think he would bear witness to such a thing, Harry was fireworks, standing his ground, demanding to be heard. Moments before it was nothing like that, it was like he’d admitted defeat, let them wear him down.

‘What happened?’ Draco asked, taking the box from Harry’s arms

‘I quit’ Harry said simply

‘Why, you love your job’ Draco replied

‘I loved my job when it made a difference, now it’s nothing but a constant battle, I’ve had enough of those to last many lifetimes’ Harry said dejectedly

‘But why quit, why not keep fighting to change things?’ Draco argued

‘Because my love there are better things in life than fighting, the times come for me to find out what they are’ Harry smiled

After a moments reflection Draco understood what Harry meant, there were indeed a great many things better than fighting, he couldn’t argue with that. Wrapping his free arm around Harry’s waist, they walked out into the morning air, ready to take that next step.
