Back from MCM Comic Con 2026, and it was one hell of day!
Thanks to booking an early entry ticket this time, I managed to get all my autographs finished in the morning and had more than enough time to look around all the stalls. Bought a great haul of art prints and merch!
This convention was also my very first time cosplaying: I went dressed as Spock to celebrate Star Trek turning 60 this year. Sadly I couldn't make the 6pm Star Trek cosplay photography session, but it was pretty fun to be stopped by fans, both old and young, asking if they could have a selfie and chatting about how they got into Trek. Even bumped into three fans all dressed as Spock and we did a Vulcan salute selfie together. Amazingly I only got mistaken for a Star Wars character once XD
Getting to meet one of my favourite actors Alan Tudyk, telling him how incredible his work both on camera and behind the mic was, was a dream come true. I got my Wreck-It Ralph DVD signed and wowed him with my brief King Candy impression.
Richard Horvitz lit up and did the Vulcan salute the second he saw my Spock cosplay. I told him how I'd grown up loving his Cartoon Network roles (Billy and Grey Matter) and how his performance as Jimmy in Static Shock surprised me in particular (he considers that episode very special to him as it came right off the heels of Columbine and the subject matter is still "an epidemic" in the US). And after he signed my art, we quoted Zim back-and-forth just for fun.
After he had to cancel his con appearance last year, I was lucky enough to finally have Dee Bradley Baker sign my artwork from 2025. He was really impressed and even did the Momo chitter as he handed it back to me.
Nika Futterman was so touched when I told her that Luna's character and her relationship with Sam in The Loud House was genuinely some of the most meaningful LGBT rep I've seen in animation. She replied how special it was to her that Luna's family was so casual about it right from the get-go. She happily signed the Saluna art I'd prepared (she loved the bi/lesbian lightning bolts around them).
Sadly Maurice LaMarche had to cancel his appearance due to sickness (bad case of HMPV but he'll be okay) but I had a solution. When I met Rob Paulsen again and he recognised me from last year (shouted out "live long and pro-SPI-er!" when he saw me XD), I got him to sign my copy of his book. And I also gave him the artwork I'd prepared for Maurice: a parody of the Lust for Life movie poster, as a shoutout to his Kirk Douglas voice he used for Michelangelo from Animaniacs and Father from KND. Rob was amazed by it and promised to pass it onto him.
All in all, despite how hot it got near the end, this turned out to be a pretty awesome day!
