Dude, I'm so glad someone else is reading 17776. I love it so far. Kinda reminds of Douglas Adams' work in a way.
I’m really enjoying it so far.
I don’t really see Adams’ influence all that much; it’s more along the internet trend of a forum adventure/ARG. I’d unfortunately have to say I see more of urgh Andrew Hussie’s influence, specifically the characterization of JUICE who reminds of Dave.
Except these character’s don’t actually piss me off, and there’s really no sense of irony or meta-commentary with how the story is playing out. Maybe some sort of influence by Andrew Niccol, except instead of about humans having clocks on their arms counting down to the time they’ll die, it’s the exact opposite.
I honestly can’t put my finger on where the influence lies, aside from the new general sci-fi trend of exploring human longevity, except the twist being: now what? What do we do with eternity?
And it takes it to leisure, which in the case of this world, is football.
That’s not even touching up on the achievement of sentience from our characters. It hasn’t really been explored as much yet, but goddamn this story is barely beginning and it’s intriguing.
I hope to god the creator continues this to whatever end they decide to take it in, because goddamn I’m invested and want to support it.
