So. Bea stands up for Hero, who says “oh gosh” and "sips her tea like an angel" and that’s great, but it’s all done under the assumption that she is naïve and a delicate flower. And it’s great of her to stand up for her cousin, but like. What about Meg?
I kinda like the ambiguity of Balthazar, just because it makes it easy to give them a backstory that you can relate to (which is possibly why people are as fond of them as they are - it's a clean slate, you can make them nonbinary/asexual/aromantic/panromantic/trans/agender/etc, because the only thing we know for sure is that they present themselves in a relatively gender-neutral fashion when in front of a camera and they are currently interested in some way in a boy).
That being said, I do have some headcanons based on what we have seen that I really, desperately want to see verified in Lovely Little Losers (as well as some that I've come to accept probably won't be included).
For example, rather than the shy and delicate little bunny a large portion of the fandom seems to have assigned them to, the way they behave in "FOR HERO"/"MONTAGE"/"VOX POPS"/"Dear Benedick" (and especially in "Way to Tell You") lead me to believe that, though they may not say much, this is not necessarily out of shyness so much as it is a lack of anything to say? They are capable of very witty/silly banter, if they're feeling like it.
Balthazar is capable of sarcasm, dry humor, and calling out of things they do not appreciate ("men are deceivers ever" - which, along with the fact that they are not in a number of the videos featuring the "bros," also leads me to believe that they do not identify as one of the "men" although it may just be that they are aware of the existing patriarchal society they currently live in and are wary of the group as a whole, themself included).
Writing Balthazar as a delicate flower who blushes all the time and can't handle being the center of Pedro's attention neglects all of these things. Suggesting that they are shy and incapable of participating in conversation, rather than just unwilling at a given point in time, ignores the fact that they wrote, recorded, and uploaded a number of songs for the entire world to see. (This is something they are keenly aware of, something that they contemplate and think over - see "shit, that's a lot of people. how many people watch these?")
They actively choose to put themselves out there and perform shows. This doesn't negate the possibility of being shy, of course, as there is always the option that the videos are an attempt at getting them to open up and be a little more confident. But given that they have the guitar in "FOR HERO," despite not having been asked or coerced into bringing it - that we know of, anyway - leads me to believe that they're probably pretty confident in their musical abilities.
I don't really know what the point of this post is, other than I think that there is a lot of potential in Balth's characterization so far. Basically, though they haven't been given much in terms of canonical dialogue, what they do have allows for a little bit of a glimpse, at least, into who they are or could be.
(If you rewatch NMTD entirely for the purpose of seeing Balthazar's lovely face in the few episodes they happen to show up in, anyway. Like I most certainly have.)
(Also who's here for the nb/aro/pan!Balth because that would be my kind of party pls join the fanclub we have tissues for your emotions)
Remember that post I reblogged about Balthazar actually being kind of a dick to people because I do
Except in the end even Pedro can't live up to those standards, he isn't perfect either, and obviously Balth is going to be a little upset, or hell, maybe even angry at him for it. Now, as seen in "One Foot in Sea," they obviously get over those emotions and come to realize that no one will ever live up to those standards and they need to reevaluate some things.
But, because Balth is only a minor character in NMTD, (not in LLL guys oh my god I'm still not over it oh no) we don't see that evaluation. We don't see who it is that got them to consider the idea that maybe part of the reason for that anger isn't just that Pedro fucked up, but also because they should have known that everyone does and now their own naivete has left them disappointed.
I think it might have been Hero. Because I am stubborn as hell and I will ship them to my grave.
(Like, okay, as much as I would love to believe that Balth was aware of Hero's actual health all along, you don't even have to believe that along with me for this to be a possibility. That is a headcanon to explain on another day.)
Balth is still upset during "FOR HERO" and they don't try to hide it. They do not interact with Pedro or Claudio at all in the scenes we are shown, and they tell Hero that "men are deceivers ever." Clearly, there's still some unsolved issues there. Those issues seem to have disappeared, though, when we see them again next. (Excluding the songs, of course.)
So. If Hero talked to Claudio and Pedro, despite having known that they actually wanted to hurt her in calling her out, she also probably talked to the people that she did like. Ursula, Meg, and Balth all probably got the chance to talk to her about where she'd been and why she'd gone along with the lie and everything.
With the way she talked to Bea about letting everything go, I wouldn't be surprised if she tried to get Balth to move on from the whole thing too. And, obviously, she was successful.
Of course Balthazar would listen to her; she's the only one they've known to "do no wrong" in reality. (Cue the two of them entering some kind of either romantic or queerplatonic (!!!!) relationship, depending on your headcanons.)
Bea goes on about how she never wants to be in a relationship, and rejects him on camera for everyone to see. And while he gave her the green light to post it, that doesn't mean it didn't hurt or upset him. Getting revenge on her in the form of making Ben think she likes him sorta makes sense, because in theory, she would feel similarly embarrassed and upset, if for different reasons.
But why humiliate Ben, as well? Why would Pedro go out of his way to humiliate and embarrass Ben, his friend, the one who has neither embarrassed nor humiliated him in the way that Bea has?
Unless, of course, he has.
What if, outside of the portion of his world that we've been invited into, Pedro has been rejected by Ben? Maybe a little more subtly, as Ben seems legitimately surprised to discover Pedro's sexuality.
Picture, if you will, Ben and Pedro at the age fourteen: Ben, as we have already seen, had a tendency at that age to take a look at Feelings and run in the other direction, occasionally spouting off emotionally harmful bullshit as he went. Pedro, however competitive and insensitive he may have seemed when he first met Bea, was not like that. He never spurned Beatrice for her emotions or for wanting friendships to grow and develop, so they remained good friends.
Imagine Pedro doing the same thing Bea did. Not necessarily curious or scared at his attraction to Ben - as he's had crushes on guys before, come on, he's not blind - but a little wary, a little cautious in how he brings it up. He says something along the lines of, "Hey, Ben, what you said to Bea - it's just with girls, right? Like, you'd keep a friend around for more than three days if it's a guy, right?"
And Ben sort of thinks he knows where this might be headed, but he isn't quite sure. He runs anyway, throwing back "Only if we're both bachelors," and. Well. That's that, then.
So Pedro's been shot down by both of these kids and he wants them to feel what he felt. Only it doesn't work, and he's even more embittered by the success of his plan, because now it isn't that the relationship aspect was unwanted, it's just that he was unwanted.
I wrote an essay about Meg, Ursula, and Meg/Ursula which no one will read why do I hate myself
For some reason no one ships Meg/Ursula. I have no idea why that is, but i have a LOT of feelings about it (haha what's new) so read on if you're interested. Be warned this is over 3 thousand words though. I literally wrote an essay that, if cleaned up, could be turned in for a class (too bad I’m not taking any media analysis classes. I hate myself so much right now I’m supposed to be doing Nanowrimo I don’t even know what happened here).
First of all, credit for me shipping this goes to queenofcarthage (it started here and here), who I do not know but would very much like to. When I first saw this ship I wasn't sure how I felt about it, but I let the idea marinate for a week or two and the more I thought about it the more I shipped it—and now I ship it hard enough to write an essay, so that should give some indication of my sentiments.
It just fits so welllll okay?? and works so beautifully with their characters!! so much love!!! so much shipping!!! so much fucking meta!!!
This was originally going to be about me shipping Meg and Ursula, but then it turned into a character study with a relationship discussion at the end. As I said before, I kind of hate myself.
Okay so first of all Meg. The first thing you notice about Meg is that she’s very confident, in many ways but especially physically—one clearly understands that she knows exactly how hot she is; tying in to that, she also obviously likes having sex. What is great about Meg, however, is that she also really cares about her friends [and those things are not presented as conflicting #allhailthecandlewasters]. When she's with Robbie she's very couple-y (“PROJECT I - VOX POPS,” “Football Antics”) but when she's not with him she doesn't pine over him; she has her own character that's not just tied up with his [side note: bow to the Candle Wasters for making Hero, Meg, Ursula, etc. real characters when the original play made them flat cardboard cutouts]. The loveliest example of this is in “PROJECT III—LIFE OF THE PARTY” when Meg is making out with Robbie and stops mid-kiss to smile and wave at whoever’s holding the camera (presumably Ursula/another friend; starting around 0:45). So not only is Meg very happily in love with Robbie, she’s also an amazing friend—*character depth and complexity!!*
Also, Meg is very self-aware/conscious of how she appears to others. In practically every video that she appears in, especially the early ones, she is shown fixing her hair/looking herself over/something relating to physical appearance. “VOX POPS” and “Football Antics” are the best examples—literally the first image of Meg in the entire show (in “VOX POPS”) is her checking to make sure her hair looks good. That was not an accidental choice! In "Football Antics," when Meg and Robbie show up she has a whole little monologue about "the queen has arrived" and "I'm the real star of the show, you just don't know it yet," which perfectly demonstrates her character—acting for the camera, but because she and everyone else knows she's acting it doesn't feel deceitful (if that makes any sense at all??). The way she presents herself when she’s aware of the camera is an exaggerated version of her true personality; she hams it up, but in an adorable, doesn’t-take-herself-too-seriously kind of way.
Another thing I find really interesting about Meg’s character is how she acts when she forgets about the camera. This happens more and more later in the show: “Preparing for Pedro’s Party,” the party itself, both of the sleepover videos… essentially, when she’s just with her friends and has forgotten about the camera, while still very melodramatic (yet conscious of it, so it’s not annoying but instead funny), Meg is also more relaxed—she’s not acting any more, and it’s really obvious. One thing that I particularly noticed is that when she’s with Robbie, she’s either kissing him or very aware of the camera—there is no in-between. Maybe that's partly because their relationship appears on film almost entirely at the beginning of the series, but I still think it says something about them that we never see them actually interact as real people without the crutch of Meg’s slightly exaggerated camera persona. I mean, we see her on the phone with Robbie in “Bea’s The Best,” but we never actually get to know what they do together that’s not physical. Their relationship, from our view, is completely surface-level [though you could also say the same thing about Hero and Claudio. Which is maybe part of their problem… ???//]
[side note on characterization: in "PROJECT VI- MONTAGE" at 4:16 there's a bit where Meg’s laughing with the group, ignoring the camera, and then she notices it and does the little "s'up" head nod, which I love because 1) what it says is that through all the changes, Meg is still a person who has a sense of humor and who knows she looks good and likes being filmed which is a realistic and satisfying continuity, and 2) both aspects of her personality (deliberately presenting herself for the camera and forgetting it’s there b/c friendship) can happily coexist. And neither is not presented as bad in the story line, which I appreciate and respect so much. I want “the Candle Wasters are amazing” on my gravestone.]
And now on to Ursula!
Okay so the more I think about Ursula the more I love her. I want to write endlessly about Ursula and her character and how much we can piece together from bits and pieces scattered around but basically: Ursula's a bae. An amazing friend, sweet and loving, quiet and reserved, but without her, what would we even–like, I mean, she's so important both to the story and to her friend group, but she never gets that recognition in fandom or in the vlogs because even her friends don’t seem to understand how much she matters. They should though, because think of all the things she does: filming “For Hero;” presumably also supporting the Dukes in other ways during The Dark Days; one very subtle thing which I just noticed, which is her following Ben out of the kitchen after Beatrice and Hero at the end of “HERO’S BIRTHDAY,” which is amazing; lots of other things which don’t get mentioned because that’s kind of the point (no one notices them to mention them). Overall, she’s just really and truly a great friend. (I’d also be remiss not to at least bring up “I heard from Ursula that actually Balthazar really likes Pedro” in “BLEURGH”—assuming of course that Balthazar was okay with Ursula sharing that (and he must’ve been, because she would never have done it otherwise).)
Another thing about Ursula—she’s very shy. Think about the few times she's put in front of the camera without warning: "VOX POPS” and “Football Antics: Part Two.” In those videos, she's unsure and uncomfortable, because she’s not used to being the center of attention without preparation; on the other hand, in “PROJECT IV—MAKEUP BLOOPERS” (when she chose to be on camera) she’s completely fine, giving a little smile when Hero says her name. [Essentially, I think of Ursula as the person who will do the most well-researched, analytical, interesting presentation on pretty much any topic, but who is incapable of actually presenting it to the class without stammering and looking like she’s about to throw up.] [I don't know how any of that paragraph is relevant to anything else in this essay, but I'm leaving it in because why not?]
If you put those things together (quiet but a great friend), where I see Ursula in the group is the watcher. In “Football Antics: Part One,” the very first shot is Ursula, in the background, with a camera. She barely shows up in videos, yet she films them all. But at the same time, she is definitely included in the group, and (probably because she's a watcher) she knows everything. Think about it: in “Football Antics: Part One,” when Bea is teasing Hero about Claudio [side note: Hero says "he's just really nice" about Claudio and i can actually hear my heart breaking BABY NO HE’S NOT DON’T DO THIS TO YOURSELF], Ursula joins in the teasing but only a little. Same when Robbie and Meg are making out—she's involved, but in a very quiet way. Not only that, but she also sticks up for herself, for example later in that same video when she calls Bea out twice for judging Robbie and Meg for making out (awesomeness starts at 3:30). And then, of course, Ursula also comes up with the brilliant plan to trick Team Blessed into falling in love. That’s the only time she speaks in the entire “MAKEUP BLOOPERS” video, not incidentally, and I feel that that kind of sums up her character: included but quiet, yet watching everything and popping out really insightful things when you least expect it.
Okay self actually get to the point here about relationships
Meg just seems to be the kind of person who loves hard and deep. her greatest fear is that Robbie will leave her ("VOX POPS") and what's more, she says that to his face while being filmed. That level of honesty and openness (esp. when not returned in anywhere near equal measure) takes serious courage, and it says something about Meg’s character. I really, really respect that bravery (me + telling people I like that I like them = awful. I’m the worst at it, so I’m kind of in awe of Meg for that tbh)
But the thing with Robbie is, he doesn’t love Meg back. He just doesn’t—for starters, he cheats on her in “PROJECT III—LIFE OF THE PARTY.” Even worse, he later uses her/takes advantage of their relationship to hurt Hero, who is one of Meg’s best friends, and I think that what Robbie fundamentally does not understand about Meg (because he’s a narcissistic white straight cis boy living in a patriarchal society that has literally always prioritized him [side note: is getting kicked off the football team the first bad thing that’s ever happened to him? because that wouldn’t surprise me at all]) is that Meg’s friends matter just as much to her as Robbie does, if not more. Yes, in "VOX POPS" she says that her greatest fear is him leaving her, but at the end of the day I think she would pick her friends over him if she really had to (not that she doesn’t love Robbie, she just loves her girls equally much or more). So Robbie thinks that as long as he doesn’t hurt Meg specifically/directly, there won’t be any issues—but by helping destroy Hero’s world (temporarily b/c Hero’s awesome and comes back even stronger), he’s hurting Meg. I imagine the conversation where he tries to get her back, in which he says something like “But it wasn’t you! I told them you had nothing to do with it! It was just about Hero and Claudio!” and that is the point where Meg realizes that Robbie has absolutely no idea who she is as a person because if he honestly thought that that would make things better—if he truly believed that saying “I hurt your friends and not you” would be a good thing—then he has no idea about the person she is when they’re not together. And that’s when she completely gives up on the relationship, and essentially yells some of this at him and walks out, leaving him confused, angry, hurt, and betrayed (b/c he’s a misogynistic dudebro who doesn’t deserve her yet feels entitled). And just like in “LIFE OF THE PARTY” when Robbie cheats on her, Meg cuts him out all at once. When she decides to be done with him, she’s done (for real this time—getting back together after he cheated was a mistake, but she’s a hopeless romantic who (thought she?) loved him and the sex was good so, y’know).
And consider the aftermath of their breakup: Meg thinking about her and Robbie’s relationship and really truly fully realizing that Robbie is a dick who was more interested in sex than in her as a person. Realizing that she needs to take some time off from dating, to find someone who really cares about all of her and not just her body—someone to be a rock, to give her stability, to help her stay grounded. Someone who isn’t loud like her (the way Robbie was; he matched her but she needs someone who is her opposite and complements her) but a quiet sunshine, someone to be the person behind the scenes making Meg desperately happy in a way that no one but the two of them will notice—and that won't matter, because just the two of them will be enough. Meg spending a few months (I assume that she and Ursula are in Hero’s grade and thus have another year of school left before university, which I think is probably going to be cannonballed by LLL but whatever, if that’s not true the timing for this doesn’t work and I don’t like that so I’ll ignore it) thinking about all this, and determining that if she can’t have the kind of relationship she wants, she’s not going to settle, because she’s already given up a lot for a person she thought she loved and next time, she wants a hell of a lot more in return.
And of course, Ursula being an incredibly supportive friend through all this, and also being 100% oblivious to the fact that her close friend/crush is falling in love with her, because Ursula’s amazing powers of observation don’t work when she’s observing a relationship that she’s a part of. But Ursula truly caring about Meg in a platonic way—Ursula is not the female “Nice Guy;” even though she thinks Meg will never feel the same way she still wants Meg to be happy because she’s a good person—and therefore quickly and relatively easily (she has lots of practice) squashing any romantic feelings. (For some reason, idk why, i can see Ursula very easily compartmentalizing her Meg feelings into separate “crush” and “friend” drawers and shutting and locking the “crush” drawer in a way that most people have a really hard time with.)
Why Meg and Ursula Work Really Well Together
Both Meg and Ursula have specific roles/niches in the friend group—Ursula is the sweetly supportive but quiet observer and Meg is the over-the-top life of the party with a heart of gold. But while maybe those boxes fit for a while, as people change sometimes we outgrow our old roles—and even if we don’t, certainly fitting into those boxes every single moment is impossible.
What Meg wants (needs) is someone who can love both parts of her (the sexy, dramatic performing part and the sweet, kind friendship part), unlike Robbie who didn’t even know that the second part existed, and who understands that both of those parts are integral to her personality—that they don’t compete or cancel each other out, they are just two different sides of Meg.
Ursula, on the other hand—I mean, I’m sure Ursula is okay with being an observer most of the time, because as shown in “Football Antics” she’s not adverse to sticking up for things that she cares about and I can’t imagine her being unhappy with her role in the friend group for the entire series and not doing something about it. And also clearly she does relax a lot with her friends (Bea’s sleepover videos!!). But at the same time, like I said before, just because you are (used to be?) happy in a role doesn’t mean you’ll always stay this way, and I have to imagine that Ursula occasionally feels a bit invisible. So what she needs is someone who can pay attention to her and just her for a while, who understands that just because she never talks about her own needs or desires doesn’t mean she doesn’t have them, who notices and appreciates all the things she does that no one ever gives her credit for. Essentially, Ursula needs to be made to feel as special as she truly is.
And the thing is, Meg and Ursula perfectly fill each other’s needs. Ursula, with her powers of observation and subtle-yet-powerful support, is the perfect person to continually remind Meg, in a million tiny ways, that she is more than just a stereotype—a queen but also a person who wants to be held quietly sometimes, when there is no one else around. Ursula would ground Meg, give her something to hold on to, give her the quiet that she needs to stay happy in the chaos that is her life.
And for Ursula—well, Meg is the perfect person for Ursula and you will never convince me otherwise. Because the thing with Meg is that she is so incredibly intense. Not just in terms of sex or love (though as argued above, when Meg loves she loves hard, she’s an all-or-nothing kind of gal) but just in terms of attention. Try to imagine for a moment all of Meg’s energy, her scatterbrained whiplash of thoughts and feelings, focused totally and completely and tenderly on one person. Try to imagine the power of Meg truly concentrating and trying her hardest to make another person happy on multiple physical and emotional levels. It would be, for Ursula, the most amazing thing, because Meg in love with Ursula would be the most giving person. Ursula would have complete and total security in Meg’s affection, and on top of that would know that Meg sees her when no one else does—that when she’s in her element holding the camera and everyone has forgotten about her (which mostly makes her happy because that’s how to be a good filmmaker but also occasionally makes her feel a bit lonely and invisible), that Meg never will; that in the group, a small part of Meg's brain will always say “check up on Ursula,” so every once in a while she’ll just look up and make eye contact, which would be so sweet and reassuring for both of them. And being alone, with Meg paying attention only to Ursula and to no one else—it would be like being lit up from inside out, to have that much energy focused just on her. It would probably be the most seen that Ursula had ever been.
tl;dr:
Meg and Ursula fill very different roles in their friend group. Ursula needs someone to pay full attention to her for a change, while Meg needs someone to understand and accept the many not-contradictory facets of her personality. Meg perfectly fills Ursula’s needs with her intense energy, while Ursula perfectly fills Meg’s needs with her quiet yet loving powers of observation.
bonus friendshop randomness: Ursula and Balthy!!! After “BLEURGH” everyone in fandom was incredibly excited about Ursula and Balthy’s friendship, for obvious reasons, but their dynamic just gets so much more interesting if you consider them bonding over (among other things, their characters are similar in so many ways that you could argue that they fill the same role in the smaller groups of “the girls of NMTD” and “the boys of NMTD”—but I already wrote one essay, so that will have to wait) unrequited crushes on their theoretically straight friends. I mean, it’s not a perfect parallel because Meg was dating Robbie while Ursula pined whereas Pedro was subconsciously but very obviously pining for Balthazar while Balthazar pined right back, and I definitely think that Balthy is in love with Pedro while Ursula just likes Meg a lot—but still. Come on, tell me that’s not cool!
final bonus crackship randomness written at 1 AM: in “Bea’s The Best”! (aka first sleepover video), Ursula describes Benedict Cumberbatch’s good qualities as “tall and distinguished and curly dark hair and British accent and so interesting-looking,” and while Ursula is neither British nor distinguished, she has the tall/curly dark hair thing going. ;)
In response to THIS post - I was going to reblog it, but then it got really long winded and messy, as my posts usually are, so I'm making a new post instead.
My feelings on Hero's ugly side is kind of complicated.
I used to be the same way, and I think it what originally pulled me out of the show every time I rewatched. But I think the closer you look into it, the more you can see of Hero. And I think you do need to look in harder, because like someone said before, she wasn't deconstructed on camera like Claudio or Pedro.
First of all, Hero has a sort of ignorance and naivete to her, which may be the world's most cliche fault, but it is there. She trusted Claudio despite having no reason to. She forgave John despite having a shit ton of reason not to. She forgave Claudio right away (personally, I would have let him grovel much longer, and I know many people who would simply leave him in the dust). She puts her own self at risk.
She plays up her saint-like behaviour just as much as Beatrice does, though I don't think it's as obvious. I've heard a few people having found fault with Bea because, even people that are kind and pleasant and sip tea like angels can do bad things and cheat. I had to rewatch the party scene, but as Hero grabbed on to Claudio's shirt, she distinctly said, "Claudio, you know me!" But that's beside the point, isn't it? The loveliest people I know have done awful things. That's what makes them human. She plays that card just as Bea does, but no one calls her on it.
She's clearly meddling. I'm not certain who started the Love Gods, but Hero was definitely a large part of it. If Bea and Ben were to get together, it would've taken a while, but they would have, and there was no need for such meddling from their friends. That's not to say I wouldn't do it if I had two friends clearly in love, but that's one of my faults, as well as one of Hero's. Because, on the flip side, whether or not I liked the person, it would have pissed me off to know my friends went behind my back to meddle in my personal love life.
She's shallow. Hero admits Claudio had trouble talking to her, so it's not as if they had very many meaningful conversations before they were dating (or at least I think it's safe to assume so), and that she started liking him when she noticed how cute he was. I'm not saying liking someone for their looks is bad (though I suppose I personally don't think it's all that great to get into a relationship entirely based on looks, but I suppose that's personal opinion), but I do think being shallow is a fault. Actually, I'm not entirely sure where I was going with this point, so feel free to ignore it, but I'll leave it in if anyone has something to say/can phrase it better than I can.
She lies. And recklessly, it seems. I know Hero said she wanted to get away, and be listened to, but surely there's an easier way to do that than faking your own illness? And though it wasn't her fault, death as well. Imagine the trauma you must have given two seventeen year old boys, thinking that they helped kill of a sixteen year old girl. I know people in the fanbase that think they deserve it for what they did to Hero (though I certainly don't - that's just cruel, isn't it?), the point still stands - the girl who is known for having no faults and being far too kind is ruthless. I know it wasn't her idea, but Hero has stopped Bea's crazy ideas before - this tells me that she wanted this.
Not to mention when she, Meg and Ursula were lying about Bea. I distinctly remember raising an eyebrow at what Hero said. "She's too busy being in love with herself"? The other things I'll admit I can see why, but that just seemed sort of cruel and unnecessary to me. If I heard my cousin and best friend say that, I'd be so upset. I'm not entirely sure what to call that flaw - perhaps not realizing when she's crossing a line?
I think, because Bea and Hero are so close, people tend to overlook Hero's fault, because she's so tame next to her. Who pays attention to a shoplifter when there's a murderer in the other room? But that doesn't at all take away the faults that Hero has. Like I said, Hero is a character that needs more personal construction, because she wasn't one of the main characters in the webseries. Though NMTD did a good job giving her interests and agency, the point still stands that Hero is a secondary character.
P.S. I'll fully accept if I made this all up in my head. I kind of just woke up, and all the characters in NMTD tend to be made up of my headcanons, anyways.
P.P.S. Also, I just woke up, so if none of this makes sense, I'm so sorry.
How I feel about this character: MY LOVE FOR BEA IS ENDLESS okay so I know she isn’t perfect or anything but god I love having this girl who openly calls her cousin/close friends “misogynistic asses” when they’re pulling shit like she does not back down and I adore her also maybe want to be her but like what else is new really?
All the people I ship romantically with this character: I love Bea and Ben together, and I don’t think anything could beat that for me? But I also have a soft spot for Bea and Pedro. Because their relationship up until Hero’s party is so wonderful? And when he said “I could be your prince charming” I literally shoved a pillow over my face to hold my emotions in soooo.
My non-romantic OTP for this character: It is pretty tied between Bea/Hero and Bea/Balthazar, to be honest. They’re both such amazing contrasts and it is very intriguing to me.
My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t even know what the popular opinions are for her? But. Gray-romantic pansexual Beatrice Duke is everything to me. (I WILL HEADCANON EVERY DAMN CHARACTER AS QUEER GOOD LUCK TRYING TO STOP ME)
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish we could have seen her interact with John?? We didn’t, really. And I know she hated Claudio and she was mad at Pedro but we never saw anything about how she felt with regards to John. So. I want to know.
