Help my non-English native brain: What is this called in English? Preferably American English if there's different words for it 😂
Hii so I'm trying to learn norwegian so I'm wondering if anyone has any good shows/movies/books that I could read (mostly series and moviesfor now I need english/croatian captions for now ahah) or any tips on how to learn it more easily or smthn? Please dm me or just share this post thank you
Seriously, as a non-native writer in this fandom with friends who’re also non-native writers, providing y’all with fanfics and content, I absolutely am so sick of seeing people complain about “bad grammar and punctuation”.
A great story which happens to have some linguistic flaws because the writer is not a native speaker is being looked down on?
Fuck you.
Native English speakers tend to think the whole world speaks English as their first language just because we DO speak English.
Non-native English speakers usually learn 2,3, or more languages.
I speak 3 languages fluently, and learned additional 2 languages for a while. 5 languages.
How many did YOU learn?
And did you write fiction in those foreign languages before?
No?
Then shut the hell up, or offer us your help as a native speaker! Offer beta-ing, help with grammar etc.
Help us instead of bitching at us from your ignorant snobby high horse.
Seriously, the toxicity we’re receiving is ridiculous.
Thank you for your attention.
for all the non-native English speakers out there that play Choices
you’re doing a great job, seriously
guess what? the game even helps you on training your English skills, how amazing is that??? seriously, for free
don’t worry about missing some quick time events just because you misunderstood (or didn’t comprehend at all) a word, really, you’re managing to understand 99% so you’re a star!!!
just so we remember that even though we can miss some references sometimes, we should neither forget nor be afraid of being an active part of the fandom
you’re doing amazing, everyone
University Project
For my linguistics course in English, I have to conduct a study on my own this semester.
I am focusing on the speech act apology, and I’m doing an online questionnaire for this. It takes about 5 minutes to complete and it would help me very much. It is completely in English, but I am looking for people who are learners of english, (as second, third,... language, it doesn’t matter at which level), not native speakers.

If you’re interested in what exactly I’m doing in this study, you can contact me on tumblr and I will give you further information. (However I’m in my second semester, so it is a rather small project.)
I forgot the word "gem" so I searched "expensive stones"...
Writing Rant
I always try to stay positive on this blog. Spread beautiful artworks and fanfiction, supporting artists wheneve I can. But there is something that deeply affects me, and I really need to take it off my chest, and I believe some other non-native English speaker can relate.
I hate feeling stupid whenever I'm writing in English. Yeah, it sound absurde, isn't it? But it does happen. Even while writing this shitty post.
And after some months, I finally understood why. I keep comparing my writing in Italian to the way I write in English, and I'm not joking when I say that it fucking disgusts me.
I got praised for my writing in my mother tongue. I have people looking up at me when it cames to writing a screenplay or a novel. I had teachers saying how I have to be a writer in my life, because of the way I mastered my style, my peculiar lexicon, my sintax and the grammar.
It took me years, sweat, tears and a lot of blasphemies and after-breakdown cigarettes to get to this point, and I'm fucking proud of it, I love being conscious of my capacities, knowing what are my virtues and the things I still have to polish.
But now that I started to write in English, I feel like every accomplishments I made during this years just boom, vanished. I write like a freaking pre-schooler, I have always to check phrasal verbs, idiomatic expressions, I got the grammar wrong 99% of the time, my lexicon is just plain embarassing. Even while writing this I had to check far now at least five times words and spelling online.
I feel again like a beginner, and it is one of the worst sensations I ever felt.
I hate it.
I hate being perfectly conscious of my errors and not having the slightest idea on how to fix them, I hate having so much trouble learning new words or remembering the spelling, I hate not feeling good enough.
I keep writing. I keep trying perfectioning my skills every fucking day, and even if I know that I'm still in the process, the embarassment of making a mistake, having to find other words to explain something, not remembering how to formulate a phrase and just looking at the screen in panic is not something I like to feel.
And the saddest thing is that none of you will ever know how much better I can write in my mother tongue, how elaborated and original my writings can be because I have the skills to process my ideas properly if confronted with… whatever I ever wrote on this site.
Even if I found the sweetest, most patients people on this site, that never made me feel bad for my mistakes and always supported me, I'm still at war with my mind, with my omnipresent anxiety to not be good enough, to not be understood by the reader, to write in a childish way.
I dunno.
On one hand, I don't want to stop writing. It would be so bad for my skills that I know have to be refined. But on the other hand... I really have no idea if I actually need a little break from my obsession with perfecting my writing skills.
Sorry for the rant, but it was something that was bugging me too much for too long.
@non-native English speakers, don't you guys have a day were you just can't English, like you don't understand anything they say, anything that's written and you feel tired as fuck?
