Yup, that includes nonspeaking and partially speaking autistic folks too. And learning disabled autistics. And autistic folk with lots of co-occurring conditions. And autistic wheelchair users ♿️ and other mobility aid users. Did you know that increasing evidence is being found of co-occurrence of autism and hypermobility disorders, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes, Marfan Syndrome and Joint Hypermobility Syndrome?
That includes queer and binary and nonbinary trans autistics - did you know autistic folks are about three times more likely to be trans or gender-nonconforming than the general population?
That includes sex workers too - did you know sex work is one job a lot of autistic folk can actually manage to do, and that’s really vital when it’s so difficult for so many of us to access disability benefits and reasonable accommodations in paid work?
That includes autistics with mental health diagnoses, including schizophrenia and psychosis. Autistic folks in prison and with criminal records too - do you know that the U.K. Government’s own disability strategy notes that about 40% of people in the criminal system are neurodivergent and/or learning disabled?
That includes Black autistics, indigenous autistics and autistics of colour, who are not only horribly more likely to be the targets of violence, including fatal violence, from law enforcement and from paid carers - the Judge Rotenberg Centre, notorious for subjecting autistics to *electric shocks* as punishment, primarily hosts BIPOC folk - but are also far more likely to be misdiagnosed or go undiagnosed?

Hi, I came across your blog in the tag 'autistic girl' as I'm AFAB even though I identify as Non-binary. Anyway, I'm 23 and have been feeling for a few years like I may be autistic. Its mainly related to advanced intellect/ independence when I was a child but lots of tantrums. As an adult I have trouble with self control (drinking, eating, buying stuff to feel good) and expressing emotions. (1/2- Fox)
(2/2 Fox) Very small inconveniences cause me to 'meltdown' if I can say that and I become non-verbal. I worry about pursuing a diagnosis bc my bf is autistic and I'm not sure how he would feel. I don't want to 'steal' his thing, even though he doesn't talk about it much, and i dont want to undermine him by saying I think I might be on the spectrum? If you happen to know anything about getting help in the UK id be happy to hear it. Thank you 😊
Hello friend,
Me too first of all :) Next,
I understand your concerns about your boyfriend, when people around us have issues it can often times feel like to say “I have this issue too” seems like stealing it or not taking their problems seriously enough.
I would like to assure you that it is not. If you discover something about yourself later then I’m sure those who love you would support you. Maybe seeing your boyfriend made you realize this about yourself. I think there is a stronger likelyhood that he would be happy for you than the likelyhood he would not. Either way, don’t be afraid to seek answers because of how others may respond. :)
Second, I know its hard to tell me much in 500 characters or less, but I would just like to point out that the information you prioritized seems more emotionally related. Although autistic’s can have difficulties with executive functions such as impulsivity and emotional control that is just a fraction of the experience.
Behaviors seen with impulse control issues such as drinking, eating, and shopping are more commonly described in other conditions. As well as stronger emotional receptivity to “very small inconveniences.”
Of course, I can’t tell much from a message. But I would be more then willing to talk to you some more about your symptoms to help you personally and or ready yourself for an assessment. You can message me personally or if not spam me some anons. I don’t mind.
I am not from the UK myself, but from what I understand from my favorite UK blogs, because of your healthcare systems design, you will first have to talk to your GP and tell them you would like an assessment for autism and the reasons why. After that they should be able to refer you to someone who can properly test you. I hear in the UK the wait time is pretty steep so I highly recommend doing that as soon as you decided to get assessed.
Best of luck friend I really hope you can find some answers.

It's so funny to me that we're "just finding out" that Bella Ramsey is autistic. The autistic community spotted one of our own in their first press interview. Anyway, good for them, I hope knowing makes their life easier! (gen)
I have a form of high-functioning autism so no one takes me seriously there's no point in even trying to come out. I think I'm just going to be stuck in the wrong body forever.
hi there. i’m so sorry about your situation, because it’s incredibly unfair and it’s wrong. you should be taken seriously, and i really hope that you can find the resources that you need to help you fully become the person you truly are.
i don’t have autism, and so i don’t feel like i can fully give you the advice and support that you need. but you may want to check out onthespectrum-offthebinary, which is a safe space for nonbinary folks who are on the autistic spectrum.
and if any of our readers on nonbinary and on the autistic spectrum, and willing to talk to to this anon about their experiences, please like or reblog this post!
