I think there's a genuine conversation to be had about how aro spaces have begun pushing QPRs in a similar way that amatonormativity pushes romantic relationships onto people but a majority of aros just refuse to engage in the discussion because they see it as an attack on QPRs or people saying QPRs are romantic relationships lite instead of actually looking at the fact it's critiquing how some Aros have begun pushing it almost like an alternative to romance and something all Aro's want.
No one is saying QPRs are bad but rather that there is too much push that the idea of a QPR will fix people's problems. "oh you're lonely? just find a QPR!" "You dont have to be in a romantic relationship you can be in a QPR!" "QPR is MORE than friendship" etc etc.
There's a genuine critique here of QPRs being used to continue to push amatonormativity by again assuming that every aro wants a partner - even if not romantic - and I think we can have a genuine conversation about this rather than going at each other throats over a fake argument of "QPRs bad"
[About labeling ...]
Some people think that we keep looking for every label and microlabel out there to identify with, like a hobby, because we are bored.
But labels don't exist for fun. They have the purpose to validate our experiences, to bring together people with similar experiences...
- I am asexual. Not because i convinced myself to believe so. But because in 25 years, no human being has ever sexually attracted me.
- I am aromantic because i've never felt romantic attraction towards anyone. (And i'm sure that everyone around me have noticed how uninterested i am in romantic relationships)
- I'm aegosexual because i still get aroused by sexual content even though i am not interested in getting involved in sexual activities. And i feel repulsed, just imagining myself doing so.
- I am also a non partnering aroace because i'm not interested in dating nor having anyone in my excessively wide vital space.
It's true that i could have lived without knowing about those labels, but i would have lived an alienated life. I would have done stupid things to fit in, to feel less different, thinking i was abnormal.
So i'm willing to identify to any label i can relate to, as long as they bring me peace and comfort.
bad thing about living alone: gotta do all the chores yourself
good things about living alone: I am not bothering literally everyone by cooking at 3am
Non-partnering / Non-partnered Aro Flags
Non-Partnering describes a person who does not wish to form a significant partnership with others.
Flags in order ; Aro, Arospec, GreyAro, Aroflux
Made with my HQ remake of the Non-partnering flag
Im working on an illustration about my own hopes and dreams for the future as an aromantic person. Thing is, it's more difficult than I thought to encapsulate that single (as in, without a partner) aromantic ideal.
I have to ask: Fellow nonpartnering aros, what does a joyful aromantic future look like to you? What are your hopes for the future?
Nonam culture is finding it bizarre that there's so many people in the world and yet everyone seems to find someone they want to partner with. That feels statistically unlikely and yet
.
Nonam culture is all your relatives having partners and it feeling like a forced fanfic where every character in it falls in love with and dates another so that nobody is left single. Like, what do you mean that happens in real life??
