Huh – until now never knew such things existed, but they sound absolutely fabulous: thrummed mittens. They hail from Newfoundland, and have bits of roving (unspun wool) inside that's slowly turned into wool fleece for extra insulation as you wear the mittens. Detailed tutorial with links to other advice by Stephanie at All about Ami. Love ‘em!

@istaricelebelasse: World building-y question (if you still want it): How do lullabies change across the kingdoms? What sort of subjects are included in said lullabies?

Most lullabies are just lullabies? They’re fairly universal. Of the percentage that vary, however:

very traditional Northern lullabies are long descriptions of the land, with choruses encouraging the child to dream of them, in ways reminiscent of greenseeing

Ironborn lullabies are seen as rather gruesome on the mainland, though the Ironborn maintain that the babies can’t understand, and anyway it’s good to prepare them young

In the South, lullabies request for the Seven, sometimes using odd local names that were definitely not remnants of Old God worship, to protect the child as they sleep (and are thus vulnerable). More specifically:

the Riverfolk lullabies have a lot of river imagery, asking [insert local river here] to rock the child to sleep

Westerlands lullabies, more than the other kingdoms, tend to be repurposed ballads, usually rather sad. Think O My Darlin Clementine* and you’ve got the right feel.

*fun fact about me, I learned that song when I was six as part of my school’s curriculum. we had a performance for our parents. yes, there were ~twenty small children singing about how our girlfriend drowned. yes, it was adorable.
