I managed a decent 39k words this month across 11 chapters. I actually wanted to do more (I secretly wanted to write another 4 chapters and hit a 50k+ wordcount which in retrospect is kind of nuts).

~

On the writing side, I wrote across multiple stories: Underline the Black, A Stain that Won't Dissolve, Underline the Gold, (Secret Project), and Constellations.

~

I’m pretty burnt out and working on getting my capacity back. I'm hoping to take two weeks off writing at the end of April, and we'll see if that helps.

I think burnout is something a lot of us are feeling and trying to learn how to navigate right now!

We're switching to Underline the Gold for the next two months and I'm super excited about it! It's time to see how Flitmouse and Anton are holding up, and how the early stages of their relationship is continuing.

The Sunday-to-Sunday break continues. During this time I catch up on writing, editing, comments, and anything else that needs doing.

Stories with updates as yet undetermined: Palmarosa (Apologies to my Palmarosa peeps! I have wanted to work on this story so badly, but the new Stardew Valley update has eaten my entire life lol)

Most chapters go up between 6-7pm GMT+8 (or the time that you’re already used to me putting chapters up, lol). For those who are anxious to know when chapters are updating, hopefully this helps! If there’s ever an emergency, or a scheduling issue (like a surprise family dinner) I generally put up stories a day early and not late.

fic rec! 401K BlackIce epic set during, you guessed it, the Golden Age

Summary: Soldier in training Jack Overland is approaching the day of his initiation. Finally, he’ll learn how to fight back against the living darkness and serve the Tsar and Tsarina Lunanoff. More importantly, maybe it will get him closer to Royal Admiral Kozmotis Pitchiner, Jack’s hero, champion of the people. If only anything ever worked out the way it should.

Comments: So, um. This fic consumed me. I feel asleep reading it pretty much every day for a week. I raved about it to friends and family not in the fandom. I brought it up to co-workers not in fandom at all (calling it a fantasy space opera, of course). I read it instead of working. I dreamed “what happens next” stories when I could read it.

The world is amazing. It’s kinda horrorish, because as Jack learns about everything the Tsar was being doing you just think, it can’t be worse, and then it gets worse. It’s a very complicated, well out system that I love. Also, damn the gaslighting.

The angst and character arcs are amazing. Bunny is suuuppper complex here, but all the characters have distinct backgrounds, goals, interactions, and shifts that occur both in the story and in the backstory. I also really liked this take of spy-master Tooth.

There’s also a decent amount of sex of the BDSM style. Not my cup of tea (I’m ace!) but I still got weirdly into it because every scene was closely linked to characterization. They really were emotionally intimate scenes versus smut scenes. In many cases, both partners didn’t even finish.

fic rec! This is a pretty much a duology actually, totaling eh, 410K words? and a heavy BlackIce focus taking place post ROTG movie.

Summary: Twenty two years have passed since the defeat of Pitch, and Jack lives alone, touch-starved, with only the company of a solitary Nightmare. One evening the Man in the Moon sets him on a path that will lead him to unexpected relationships, draw the attention of the Guardians to a new coalition of villains, and challenge Jack's every notion of what it is to be good, evil, and what it is to live in the shadows.

Comments: Gods, I loved this fic. I’m actually recommended it after a reread, which really just made me love it more and drew me into it just as much a second time. I mean, here I am, knowing how it goes, and I’m still reading it before work, during work, after work. Putting aside so many things just to read the next paragraph, the next chapter.

There’s great action here, but what I really love is how broken Jack and Pitch are. Jack’s got 300 centuries of pain to work through, and the events of this story just add to it. Pitch too, even while he helps Jack, goes through his own ups and downs.

It’s the growth the characters go through - all of them, not just our main two - that really impress me. And it’s the long, fine edge of angst and hurt/comfort that goes through the entire 410K story that had me devours all the words. There’s a decent amount of smut scenes, but well written and super integrated into characterization as all good smut should be. No one else writes a touch-starved Jack so well.

I’ve been reading The Fae Tales Verse by not_poignant since february; I’m almost done with “The Court of Five Thrones”, and I’m SO NOT READY to part with Gwyn and Augus (their turbulent kinky relationship and other trials and tribulations was the cause of many-many hours of anxious unease for me after all XD)

also, never have i ever before read so much porn just for the plot ❤︎ absolutely awesome worldbuilding ❤︎
