Some moments in The Flowery Night that made me, a Heihua enthusiast, very happy.

Get you a man. Either one of them.

The context of the dialogue in this scene isn’t even that angsty but this panel certainly makes it seem that way. Like this illustration makes the line about “living for a long time” so incredibly loaded considering Hei Xiazi is functionally immortal and Xie Yuchen isn’t 😭

He knows his man all too well.

That was actually such a sweet detail to include. I really like that NPSS included this.

I’m just imagining Xie Yuchen levelling Hei Xiazi with a particular gaze that Liu Yuhan had in Ultimate Note lmao.

I love that Hei Xiazi is offended by the food quality on Xie Yuchen’s behalf (a nice detail considering how picky he is in Ultimate Note) and then Xie Yuchen hears that Hei Xiazi found the toy and - even if it’s maybe sarcastic - he just immediately offers to buy it for him. I love their banter.

Yeah this bit about eternal love I’m sure isn’t relevant to Heihua at all.

Oh, what’s that about lovers of a similar age not needing to worry but lovers who know they can’t be together for very long are willing to take risks. Gee, I wonder if that has ANY CONNECTION TO THE EVENTS OF REUNION: MYSTERY OF THE ABYSS.

I'VE DECIDED to jump into the rabbit hole that is Daomu Biji (盗墓笔记)!! It was bound to happen eventually and I think now is a great time to do it since I was trying to find something to read. Starting the first book today!

Prior to this I have watched the following dmbj shows (in order):

盗墓笔记 (The Lost Tomb, 2015) My first introduction to the world of dmbj (I've heard of the books though beforehand) and I remember that I liked Yang Yang's character a lot at that time. He played Zhang Qiling and I just knew he will be my fave character. I needed to google to check who played Wu Xie since I forgot LOL Totally forgot that Li Yifeng was in this.

怒海潜沙&秦岭神树 (The Lost Tomb 2, 2019) Watched this because of Cheng Yi since he was a new actor for me in 2020 and I wanted to gauge his acting before watching "Love and Redemption" xD Also because I liked dmbj and want to know more about the thrilling adventures. He actually did a good job as Xiaoge but Wu Xie played by Hou Ming Hao was a huge disappointment. And the chemistry between the iron triangle was not the greatest. I watched until the end because of Xiaoge.

重启之极海听雷 1 (The Lost Tomb Reboot 1/Reunion: The Sound of Providence 1, 2020) Loved this version a lot and we see an older Wu Xie and Pangzi but a still youthful Xiaoge. Zhu Yilong, Chen Minghao and Huang Junjie did an amazing job. This by far my fave version of the iron triangle where I liked all three casting.

重启之极海听雷 2 (The Lost Tomb Reboot 2/Reunion: The Sound of Providence 2, 2020) We were at a time where they couldn't air all 62 episodes in one go so they had to split it into two "seasons".

吴邪私家笔记 (Time Raiders/Wu Xie's Private Notes, 2025) Made me fall in love with dmbj again, 5 years after I last saw "Reunion: The Sound of Providence". This new version of the iron triangle was so good! The only thing that I didn't like was that they cut some of Xiaoge's fight scenes, otherwise the chemistry was on point. Many said this was also a more accurate version of the first book as well.

Can't wait for 吴邪私家笔记2 - 秦岭神树 (Time Raiders 2/Wu Xie's Private Notes 2). Heard that they may broadcast in Q4, 2026 or Q1-Q2 in 2027. The latter sounds more reasonable since they just finished filming a week ago. There is also a rumor that they may film season 3 in November but don't know how true that is. I really hope that they can film the books that we have been missing with this current trio.

Checked out 3 episodes (ep 3, 20, 33) of 南部档案 (Archives: The Nanyang Mystery, 2026) as well, because someone said the current Zhang Qiling (from Time Raiders/Wu Xie's Private Notes) had a cameo. He was featured in a flashback scene (he did fight though YES!) and at the end of the show where he was seen with Zhang Haiqi (don't know much about her except that she is in the Zhang clan). Based on the little I saw I will not check out the other episodes since the casting and the acting was not my cup of tea.

I know there are other versions of dmbj that I have not watched, but I don't have any plans to do it either since there are some casts that I didn't like. I will maybe test out 九门 (Mystic Nine) when it releases, but it's only a maybe because I'm not sold on the Wu Lao Gou casting. Never watched the one from 2016 either.

Class with Daomu BiJi author Nan Pai San Shu (Laoshi). In brief summary translations (by me): “Wu Xie and Zhang Qiling met thus putting them on a new path in life. There were many uncovered secrets of the Zhang clan family that Wu Xie set out to discover while Zhang Qiling was guarding the Bronze Gate for 10 years for Wu Xie. Xiao Ge had nothing to do outside. Wu Xie learns about the evil Wang clan hunting the Zhang clan for years and that sets in motion his 10 year long plan to destroy the Wang clan threatening the Zhang clan aka Tomb of the Sea story”.
