The Whizzer occupies a weird niche in Marvel. He's the one major golden age hero who didn't die or suffer suspended animation or immortality. He's a real old man who settled down, but he had a terrible life. His wife (the superheroine Miss America, I believe) died from radiation sickness. Her and the Whizzer had a son, but their son is a mutant who has uncomfortable radiation waves emanating out from his body. A low functioning autistic kid in the 50s, the poor ends up abandoned in suspended animation. I think the plan was to revive him eventually once they could stop him from being a walking nuclear meltdown, but they never found a cure.
So eventually Nuklo ends up going free, just in time for the Whizzer to learn that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch might also be his kids. Once Nuklo is subdued and stopped with Scarlet Witch's help, then Whizzer finally has a new family to call his own. He attends Pietro and Crystal's wedding! He tries to save Nuklo from being put back under suspended animation and government control. He's a man who had depression and severe alcoholism, because I imagine going from being a superhero to being a widow with an all powerful and very low functioning child was a deep weight. Nevermind his heart problems, which make it nearly impossible for him to even fight crime anymore. He's weak and old. He's just had a rough life. Like all the vets from war, he came home with trauma and no support for him.
Captain America is a man out of time, but he's also a super soldier who'll probably live a long time. Namor is a long lived half atlantean. Whizzer was all flesh and blood. He might've had speed powers, but he's not a fucking super soldier! He's just a man in his 50s or 60s trying to make amends to his children and repair his life. He's a good man, and I refuse to acknowledge his death. Whizzer and Nuklo are honourary guests of every discussion about Magneto, Polaris, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch. Whizzer is the superhero father counterpart to Magneto's supervillain father. Both had problems, but Whizzer at least steps up in a way Magneto never does. And Nuklo...come on. Let Wanda and Pietro bond with their low functioning autistic almost brother. He's family, and he deserves kindness.
