Sodapop and his dim-witted girlfriend, who make silly faces at eachother from across the room.

Sodapop, who cant agree on a time to meet up with his ditzy girlfriend because she “never learned how to read a clock.”

Darry who can’t help but raise an eyebrow at sodapop, as Soda explains a joke to you that should have been obvious.

Soda having to whisper to his not-so-bright baby that the person they’re gossiping about is within ear-shot.

Soda guiding his absent-minded love through large crowds of greasers.

Soda giving you kisses on each of your cheeks to remind you which is left & which is right.

Soda who enjoys your semi-naivety, because it feels like a “breath of fresh air” compared to the serious & tough attitudes his brothers dish out.

“Baby wait up a minute!” Soda called out jogging after you.

“Oh hi! Sorry I heard you calling my name, but I couldn’t quite tell if it was coming from this way…or that way…” you point around the both of you, your voice trailing off.

“It’s alright doll, i’m more focused on the fact that you actually remembered what time to meet me for our date!” Soda smiled proudly at you, his eyes showing true admiration.

“I love that you’re proud of me…but i didn’t remember. My mom came in and told me that it was time. I had written what time we were supposed to meet on my arm! So when I took a shower last night, I left this arm sticking out so it wouldn’t wash off.” You stuck your arm out to Soda so he could see the 3:30 written in black ink on your forearm.

“Oh! I see love…well thats ok. You’re here, n’ thats all that matters.” He offered you a smile, before throwing his arm over your shoulders.

“You really believe in ‘at stuff?” Johnny sat leaned against the side of your bed, his legs crossed indicating that he’d finally found a position worth settling down in.

“Johnny, magicians don’t focus on true magic, it’s the art of precision.” You give him a sly smirk before shuffling a deck of cards that Dallas gave you as a “last minute” birthday gift.

‘Course in the 1960’s magic was slowly becoming a mainstream source of entertainment for teenagers, mainly with Harry Houdini being a raging source of inspiration.

“Mhm, you gonna show me some magic or not?” He sat up straighter, he never said it aloud but he always got a bit giddy being your auto-volunteer when it came to trying tricks.

“Pipe down, and pick a card” You bit your lip in anticipation while watching him scan the spread out deck before deciding on a card.

He plucked the card out of the deck before peeking up at you then back down at his card. He handed it back to you, face down while muttering, “dont look.”

You shrugged before reshuffling the deck, and turning the cards over.

You smile to yourself before picking up an ace of spades, “This your card?”

Johnny let out a small gasp before grinning, “Yea actually. not bad.”

“I know.” You toss your hair before standing up and stretching. “Hey you should show Two that one, he’ll be kicked out of his shoes for sure.”

You nudged him, “well to be fair he ain’t that hard to impress.”

Ponyboy teaching his sweetheart how to sound out hard words because he thinks with the mindset that, “if i can do it, so can you.”

Ponyboy who is just a tad envious with the far-away look in your eyes, because he wishes life could be so blissful to him as it is to you.

Ponyboy and his dense love who have weekly dates at the playground, and though pony finds your childish behavior occasionally annoying, he cant help but grin at your laugh as you swing.

Ponyboy who reads stories to you with words you couldn’t even imagine trying to say, but he pauses every so often telling you what a word means without you having to ask.

When you ramble about the latest trends, or about the rude girl who scuffed your new mary-janes at school, he’ll feel his heart flutter.

“She stepped all over em’! Ugh, and-and um…I forgot what I was gonna say.” You frowned, starring intently at the clouds while trying your hardest to remember what in Gods name you were gonna say next.

“Thats okay, how bout’ you tell me somethin’ more positive instead hm?” Pony sat next to you, his hands clasped together. He peered at you occasionally with a raised eyebrow, a key signifier that he was indeed listening.

“Kay’! uhm…oh yes! Today I explained to Mr.Auther that I did write my history paper on my own! He said “there’s no way on God’s green earth that I knew what fluncuate meant”, but I told him I really did!” You jutted your lip out in a pout.

“That ain’ too kind of em’ is it? Well, you’ll just have to keep provin’ em’ wrong.” Pony shrugged, his voice laced with nonchalance. He knew you could do it, you just needed a few small pushes from him.

“Everybody always callin’ me dumb. I ain’ dumb! But…I ain’ to smart neither…” you shook your head. Sure you didn’t know what most words meant, or how to say em’, and you sure as hell didn’t know quadratics, but that didn’t make you dumb!

“I know it, so like I said, just keep provin em’ wrong.”

Pony never was one to hop on your pity train. He knew you better than anyone. If he gave in and gave you the sympathy you agged for, he’d end up just doing everything for you.

“Well, can you read this book for me? Oh and do the thing you usually do, where you stop n’ ‘splain it for me! ‘kay?” You batted your eyes at him while holding the worn book up with both your hands.

“I will, let’s head back to my place alright? Ain’ no sense in reading out here in the cold.” He stood and stretched before offering you his palened hand.

“Okay!” You grabbed his hand and stood with a bounce, sure school and stuff was hard, but pony made learning oh so sweet.
