I'm not sure if my evidence is enough to warrant "canonicity," so i'm picking "no" just to be safe.

In the chapters he was introduced, mitsuba reveals that he was bullied as a child for the way he behaved, which was described as "rude," so as he got older, he decided to mask his true personality & be friendlier to he could make friends. it's not necessarily an autistic thing to be rude at all, but with the way mitsuba does it, it often comes across as simple bluntless / lack of filter rather than actual malice, which i interpret as a lack of social cues / awareness, a classic trait of autism that i myself possess.

(and that manifests in the same way as him lololol.) and i especially think the concept of being outcasted for the weird ways you interact with other people & having to mask your true personality in the hope of being able to make friends is a very classic autistic experience.

The idea of being different from others & being unable to find a place to belong as a result is carried throughout the rest of his story as well, in many different ways, which, again, is a common experience for many many autistic people.

For some smaller notes, he's often shown with his hand in a very specific pose (his hand being covered by his sleeve & held up to his face, hiding his mouth), which in my opinion is very easy to interpret as a stim.

He's also shown to be very sensitive & easy to overwhelm compared to other characters, crying very often, jumping frequently at sudden noises, & at one point even complaining about other characters making too much noise.

In general, the vibe he possesses is that of a weird, artsy, socially unaware kid in his own world who isn't able to be "normal" and just wants to be accepted by others for who he is, which is pretty damn autistic imo.

For my final piece of evidence.... "mitsuba," when romanized, has all the same letters as "autism" (minus the b). *mic drop* 🎤💥 okay thank you for your time lololol sorry this was so long.

(the sweater & striped shirt combo i like though, that's kyute, he would wear that for sure. however, not in combination with the rest of that unfortunate fit)

♡ happy mitsuba day 2026 !!! ☘︎

it's that special time of year again!!!! 💗(◕‿◕✿) mitsuba day is the most important day of the year to me, so i wanted to work hard to make an illustration for it that mitsuba would enjoy, and i think i did a good job :D

this piece took 17.5 hours in total, and in this piece, i wanted to focus on mitsuba's relationships in the series!!! throughout the series all mitsuba wanted was to have friends, so i wanted to highlight the other characters who have supported mitsuba 💗(^ ^) so, mitsuba's friends have decided to throw a party to celebrate his special day!!! :3c and kou baked the cake, of course. (i'm not sure if he would actually be that good at cake decorating, but like,, mitsuba deserves a pretty cake!!! so why not)

anyway, i hope you like this illustration and it inspires you to love mitsuba as much as possible today!!!! it's still mitsuba day for 21 more hours in my time zone, so let's spend it well!!! i know i will 💗☘️(*´ω｀*)
