The second my mom saw the lighthouse painting when we were watching Our Flag Means Death she said “I could do that in stained glass.” And she did!
This show is so inspiring in so many ways!

Day 25: Lighthouse
✨Stede Bonnet as The Hanged Man✨
This was actually one of the first pieces of OFMD fanart I ever started, and it’s just been sitting in my WIPs since March so I decided to quickly polish off.
The Hanged Man is a card about releasing old ways of being, sacrifice, surrender, transformation, and evolution.
The traditional imagery is based not on the typical hanging with a noose, but on ”Pittura infamante”, a sort of public humiliation in Renaissance Italy where caricatures of wealthy men who had committed white-collar crimes would be painted hanging by the foot (this actual type of hanging was an older punishment specifically for traitors).
Mary’s Lighthouse painting! Had to screenshot it myself bc i couldn’t find it anywhere... anyway, posting it in case others also need it as reference
another ofmd related post. This time a kraken embroidery patch I made to put on my jacket. I'm very happy with how it's come out :)!
i will never be over the fucking lighthouse. the “youre supposed to avoid lighthouses so you don’t crack up on the rocks.” the “we were supposed to be lighthouses for each other”, and how stede sees himself as the lighthouse— tricking ed into liking him, only for him to crash on the rocks. “youre a monster. a plague, you defile beautiful things.” how ed sees himself as the rocks— because he’s blackbeard, terrible blackbeard, and he’s never allowed to have anything good. “this is who i am, stede. can you see me now? you were always gonna realise what i am.” its the fucking lighthouse, and the fucking rocks. “can you see me now?” and how stede failed to be a lighthouse for his family, but he constantly and effortlessly does nothing but guide his crew and guide ed into the path to healing. how ed did the same for him. how eds become the kraken. “i’m a bad person, stede.” how the kraken is eds crash on the rocks, after choosing to believe in and follow his lighthouse. how the lighthouse painting is in frame when he slams izzy into the post. “there he is”, and the painting is in the background, because despite everything ed threw away the lighthouse is still there. there’s nothing in the room at all, no furnature, no curtains, no nothing. except for the fucking lighthouse.
and he’s looking at the lighthouse at the end, too, as the song repeats “you will reap just what you sow.”
