“I just so badly wanted that respect from him, and I hate that about myself, that I was like, “This guy who’s antagonizing me, I just want his approval.”
I loved tonight's episode. Ben is an impulsive idiot but you really sympathise with him and his situation. Seeing how badly he's coping was heartbreaking. And then how sad and hurt Callum was too. Oh my lord I love it.
Same!! I really enjoyed yesterday's episode in a way I haven't enjoyed an EE episode in a while! I'm pretty excited to see what happens in today's ep too!
For me, the best parts of the episode was when Callum was talking to Mick one on one, and when Ben and Callum were having their argument. Just having a scene where Callum isn't involved with Ben for at least half of the run time and interacting with people he's close with on his own accord is something I've been asking for for a while and gives me hope that Callum will actually have a sl focusing on him an away from Ben, which we all know has been making the relationship unbalanced and disinteresting. I know this is a bit contentious, but I'm looking forward to having Callum as a police officer just to have more of those moments!
And now onto the best part. The argument. So I believe I've talked about before how their relationship is a bit skewed emotionally as Ben is very demanding and hasn't very much been attending Callum's emotional needs while Callum is trying his best to always comfort Ben and neglecting his own. Well here it FINALLY came to a head! Callum does his Callum Thing of putting Ben first over everything yet again (the police assessment) and tries to help/intervene with how Ben is currently self destructing and lashing out, and it ends up with Ben being forced to admit that he's Deaf and Danny insulting him based off his disability, which deeply struck a nerve in him so that his back was against the wall and he blindly lashed out to the nearest target: Callum. (The character work was so good in this episode!) Ben proves himself to be a major asshole during the argument and Callum actually yells back to show his frustration and how Ben suddenly pinning blame on him was wrong. Because it is wrong.
Right now, as it is, Ben and Callum are in an unhealthy relationship. With Ben being so stuck in his own world of self destruction and turmoil, and Callum desperately trying to intervene despite how he gets hurt in the process, I challenge ANYONE to watch that argument they had and prove otherwise. Ben NEEDS to realize that what he's doing is wrong and that he's hurting the people he loves because of it, or else they will just leave him to self destruct. The reason I loved that scene so much because it really did lay bare the inequalities in their relationship (Ben being violent to his surroundings, Callum being in tears) and proving that Ben really WAS being a gigantic tool and nothing Callum could do was going to stop Ben from being one since it is all stuck in his head, and him trying to coddle and get through to Ben wasn't working. That kind of emotional violence is unhealthy. Ben spiraling and not listening to how Callum is feeling and then pinning blame on him is unhealthy. And Ben is going to have to do one hell of a romantic gesture in order for Callum to come back and give it another shot.
Because dear lord I hope they have Callum recognize what a giant tool Ben is at the moment and not try to reach out to him again and FINALLY stand his ground and be like "You hurt me. I'm not coming back unless I get an apology and I know you aren't going to do it again." Because it isn't Callum's job to make sure Ben is okay. It isn't his job to make sure Ben is mentally healthy. So hopefully we get to see Callum recognize that (please EE please please please).
Oof, I went off on a tangent. But yeah I totes enjoyed the episode!!
So
I saw Endgame
I mean, we often make fun of season 1 of "Shadowhunters" being cheesy and the f.e. ridiculous lightsaber swords but... I don't recall that we ever joked this much about the plot/storylines being hilarious and downright stupid (read: nonsense) like we did from season 2 on where like... nothing not much made sense anymore.
katastroficwriter replied to your post “Yall be out here like ‘Shuichi is a hero, he ended Danganronpa’...”
Funny how Saihara suggested to have everyone throw away their lives precisely because of the reasoning that Danganronpa will continue as long as they're alive.
Ooooooh snap.
