Okay but seriously Joan Goodwin in Atmosphere making such a point about not liking the cheesy Beatles songs and not being a Romantic and kinda looking down on Donna for falling in love so quickly and willingly dating someone? And it's not until she realises she's a lesbian and that romance and sex don't have to be inherently associated with men, that she can come to the realisation that she doesn't hate romance? She doesn't hate the beatles and Donna's not stupid? She likes this too, she just needed time and space to let herself consider it with women?
Is SUCH an excellent way of showing that kind of lesbian realisation. I love it. I remember So distinctly being that kind haughty teenager looking down on the girls who dreamed about kids and marriage and first dates and first kisses and love songs. Just to realise that if I stopped trying to force that to make sense in my head with men?? It all became so much more bearable and even fun? Romance is great, if I can do it with a woman? I love this so much.
