My Betta Story

Since then my betta passed. I don’t know if it were the tank conditions or her getting stuck under the filter the night before. But I knew I had to do better.

I’d over-stocked a tank that was just barely adequate for a betta with 4 pygmy cory. I lost 2 of them as well. This was by mid December.

I’d started working on a 8 gallon aquarium for them the beginning of December, because I’d realized that I’d been thinking more of them as decorations than living things.

I’ll admit that back when I’d gotten the all 5 fish i was convinced I knew what I was doing because “They’re just fish, right?”

It was one issue after another as I realized that I really didn’t know what I was doing. My betta got hurt, I crashed my cycle multiple times, I had algae issues constantly, killed several shrimp and a snail trying to fix said algae issuses, only to be dealing with a revenge bladder snail infestation.

Dumbo my betta had disappeared and I was looking for her to be trapped under a decoration yet again (This time would be the filter). I’d already lost 2 pygmy by now and knew how badly I’d messed up over the past 3 months. While looking for a betta, I found what looked like a worm. It was a cory fry.

I was kinda amazed. But I believed that the little guy would unfortunately pass. I had no way to separate it, I was barely keeping my betta and the 2 adults alive. It was fairly large for a fry, and I took a sec to continue on with the search for my “missing” betta.

This whole time I’m thinking about how In a few more days I could have been moving her to a tank that I knew would be a lot healthier than the artificial hell I had put her through for 4 month. I had been getting advice from a old friend of mine who is a pretty active fish keeper, and become fascinated with making a tank that didn’t use fake plants.

I’d started with fluval stratum and dry start with a weird packet of “Aquatic carpet seeds”. They were $6.99 on Amazon and I’m just an broke millennial that finaly found a hobby.

They turned out pretty good

I’d also bought a 3 for $20 sale of Amazon swords, and a b2g1 of anubias on lava rock.

So between Christmas-New Year I’m, just waiting for the live plants as the seeds sprout, I keeps seeing more and more fry.

This year may already be pure chaos but, I’m proud to say I’ve come a far way in fish keeping and have an adorable little family of 6 pygmy enjoying their new home 💜
