What’s That Thing? Part 27
On The Third Day Of Fun I present... numbers! Yes, we’re crunching some numbers this time around! Anonymous asked: “Hello Myloko, how much cost the outfit, the kanzashi, the makeup, and the shoes of a maiko, all together? Thx for answering.” I know that somewhere along the line I believe I answered this before, but I can’t seem to find it, so I’m going to break it down once again for those who are curious! These costs are for an everyday maiko outfit. Let’s start with the basics and work our way up: Under Layers Hada Juban and Susoyoke: $75 Tabi Socks: $15 Makeup and Makeup Brushes: $500 Koshihimo Set: $50 Datejime: $50 Obi Ita: $50 Obi Makura: $100 Juban: $500 - $1,000 Haneri: $500 - $1,000 Total: $1,840 - $2,840 Outer Layers Hikizuri: $5,000 - $10,000 Obi: $5,000 - $7,500 Obijime: $200 Obiage: $500 Pocchiri: $15,000 - $25,000 Okobo: $2,000 Kago: $250 Total: $27,950 - $45,450 Kanzashi Monthly Kanzashi Set: $600 Tama Kanzashi: $500 Tachibana Kanzashi (Junior Maiko Only): $1,500 Hirauchi (Senior Maiko Only): $1,000 Bira Bira: $500 Kanokodome (Junior Maiko Only): $1,000 - $5,000 Total Junior Maiko: $4,100 - $8,100 Total Senior Maiko: $2,600 So, on the lowest end a maiko’s outfit is $32,390 while at the high end it’s $56,390! Obviously it’s the pocchiri that really makes the outfit at half of the entire cost, but it all adds up in its own way! Did I miss anything or is there anything else you’d like me to look at? Let me know!
