The Olifant Mk.1B is a variant of the South African Olifant series of tanks, derived from the British Centurion. It was the Mk.1B in particular that brought the Olifant to more modern standards, being a complete redesign rather than upgrading the existing chassis. Featuring improved armor, an automatic transmission, a new fire control system, and introduced alongside new armor piercing rounds, the Olifant Mk.1B and its successor, the Mk.2, are South Africa's main battle tanks for the foreseeable future.
