I totally get what you’re saying and I guess I didn’t really express what I meant clearly enough. I sort of thought it was there between the lines, but yeah anyway. I think the inspiration was taken from a cultural group such as the Romani, so yes they’re are not really Romani you’re totally right, the book takes place in a fantasy world with different countries and all that stuff. Their cultural heritage is not explained explicitly enough to embrace and represent the rich and, as you said, painful history of the Romani. But inspiration comes from somewhere and that’s where my mind first went.
