Rebuilding a kingdom was time consuming, exhausting, and magic depleting. Months had passed since Terrasen’s- Aelin and Yrene’s- victory over Erawan and Maeve, and each day was filled with work.
In the winter, you’d spent your days in the castle greenhouses, fully growing as many crops as you could to help replenish the depleted food stores of Orynth. Come spring you were flitting around from town to town with the King and Queen, helping jumpstart their crops while the couple spoke with the townspeople and saw to their other needs.
Personally, you didn’t mind the busyness one bit. It kept you occupied physically and mentally all day, and exhausted enough from the expense of your magic that your mind shut off at night.
But even your exhaustion couldn’t stop the way your heart sped up when you were near your King and Queen, the silly crush you’d harbored since you’d first seen them, bloodied but alive as they first walked into Orynth after the war. And apparently their being married and completely off-limits and slightly terrifying meant nothing for your foolish heart.
Ambury was a small town at the base of the northeastern Perranth Mountains, about halfway between Orynth and Perranth. Half of it had been razed by Erawan’s forces as they made their way to Orynth for the final battle, though nearly all of the buildings had been rebuilt by the time Rowan and Aelin had requested for you to accompany them on the multiple days journey to lend them aid before heading to Perranth afterwards.
The ride there on horseback had been nice, with fair weather that lasted through each night, though you were still unaccustomed to seeing a King and Queen be willing to sleep on the ground, and so near to you as well. With the speed at which you travelled, the three of you managed to make it to Ambury in four days, and early enough in the afternoon to begin the work that would be needed for the town to flourish.
By the time the sun began to set you were caked in dirt, a sensation you wouldn’t mind too much if it weren’t for the days of travel with no proper bath that had preceded it. You walked back to the one inn in town slowly, resisting the urge to stroke your mare so you wouldn’t dirty her coat further. Rowan and Aelin were speaking to the innkeeper, a pinched look on your Queen’s face at the man’s words. Pine green eyes met yours after a moment, and Rowan nodded for you to come join them.
“I’m afraid not, your majesty,” the innkeep said, bowing his head with a worried expression. “The inn is full besides our largest room, due to the workers that Lady Lochan sent here two days ago.”
Ah.
Aelin opened her mouth, but Rowan beat her to it. “That will be fine,” he said, a neutral expression on his face as he took the key the man offered, and a quick look to his wife had her nodding her head in agreement. The man looked relieved at the answer, as if he was worried the royal couple would raise a fuss over the lack of a second room. “You said the room was at the end of the second floor hallway?”
“Yes, and I’ll have food sent up, and water for the bath, if you’d like,” the innkeep said nervously, wringing his hands.
“There’s no need, we’re able to bring things up ourselves,” Aelin said, the slightest hint of annoyance in her voice. “Thank you.” She breezed away with Rowan on her heels, heading up the stairs to the room that you’d share.
With your King and Queen.
Alone.
You sighed softly as you climbed the stairs, reaching the top just as they opened the door, and you hurried your steps to slide into the room before they closed the door. You were too tired to deal with sharing a room with the ones you’d always wished to share a room with, under circumstances that were not at all what you’d imagined. And the way they’d reacted- there was no way they wanted to share a room with you.
“If you’re uncomfortable, I could always sleep outside,” you said quietly, watching as they took off their various hidden weapons, a small pile accumulating on the desk on the right side of the room.
“Nonsense, Y/N,” Aelin said, those brilliant eyes turning to watch you. “It’s not ideal to share a room, but I won’t have you freeze outside while we’re comfortable in here. Rowan was the one to suggest it, and the bed looks big enough for four.” Turquoise eyes turned to look her husband up and down. “Three and a half,” she corrected with a soft laugh.
“No, I can’t- we can’t-” you stumbled, trying to find the best way to put it without revealing your ill-placed feelings. “I can sleep in the chair-”
“Y/N,” Aelin said sternly. “You’ll sleep in the bed with us. You expended most of your magic today, you’ll need a good night’s sleep. Now go get your things from your horse while Rowan fills up the bath for you.” You opened your mouth to protest, wanting for them to have the luxury of bathing first. “You spent the entire afternoon in the dirt, you deserve to bathe first.”
Your cheeks reddened at the strong, sweet tone she used that left no room for arguments. “Thank you,” you mumbled, shooting them a shy smile before you turned to leave the room. Only a few minutes later and you were soaking in the deep, clawfoot tub behind a partition that your eyes kept flitting to, even if you knew it fully hid you from sight from the rest of the room. The water was hot courtesy of your Queen, easing your aching muscles. You nearly fell asleep before you heard the door open, bringing with it the smell of food and quiet conversation. It only took a few minutes for you to scrub yourself clean and rinse your hair, your cheeks pinking at each noise you made.
You might not be able to hear everything, but they definitely could with their Fae hearing.
Once you were dressed and had your hair mostly dried with a towel, you emerged from behind the partition, your bare feet chilled against the wooden floors.
Rowan and Aelin were seated at the small table, empty bowls of stew and a loaf of mostly devoured bread in front of them. They turned to look at you, unreadable expressions on their faces. “I, uhm… I drained the tub already, I’ll start bringing water up for the next bath,” you said, making for the door.
Rowan stood, intercepting you before you could leave the room. “Take a seat, Y/N,” he ordered, guiding you with a hand on your lower back to the chair he’d just vacated. Even more color rushed to your cheeks at the softness of his touch, and you fought the quickening of your heart with slow, steady breaths. He left the room without a word once you’d sat down, taking the empty bowls with him and leaving you with Aelin, who was watching you with an amused expression on her face.
“You look even prettier with your hair down,” she said after a moment, grinning as you shifted in your seat. “You don’t need to be nervous, Y/N. Rowan and I won’t do anything inappropriate tonight.” Your cheeks turned as red as the tomatoes you’d grown earlier, shaking your head as you tried to find the right words to respond to her unexpected comment. “Unless you want us to,” Aelin said, so softly you almost thought you imagined it, but the grin still on her face told you otherwise. Rowan’s return kept you from answering her, his green eyes flicking between the two of you as if he knew what Aelin had said.
He set a bowl down in front of you, the delicious scent of stew taking over your senses, the hunger you’d ignored making itself known again. “Thank you,” you said quietly, watching as he hauled the large bucket he’d also brought with him behind the partition, water splashing as he emptied it. You tucked into your stew, avoiding Aelin’s gaze.
Rowan made trip after trip to fill the tub before finally tugging Aelin out of her seat and behind the partition, her pleased giggles likely signaling that Rowan was undressing her-
Gods, you groaned mentally, trying to shut out the images your mind concocted, banishing thoughts about Rowan’s hands on her skin, tugging down her pants-
You finished your stew and the rest of the bread before Rowan came out from behind the partition, slipping out of the room to return the dishes to the kitchen. The sky was nearly dark when you went outside to grab the book you’d brought from your saddlebags, needing something to distract yourself until you could fall asleep, though you were regretting bringing a romance novel. If you weren’t desperate for a distraction, you’d just try to fall asleep instead of reading something that would worsen your… situation.
When you came back into the room, you heard soft conversation behind the partition, and shook your head.
Don’t think about Aelin being naked in the tub. Don’t think about Rowan cleaning her. Don’t think about it, you scolded yourself, making your way to the soft armchair in the corner opposite the bathtub and opened your book to where you’d left off.
You were so engrossed in your book after a few minutes that you didn’t register the quiet noises you heard at first, until a louder one met your ears-
Aelin was moaning. You could hear it now, soft pants and sweet noises coming from her every few moments, the soft lapping of water leaving you to imagine just what was happening behind the partition. Your book lay forgotten in your lap as you listened, even as you admonished yourself for eavesdropping on such a private moment.
Had they not heard you return to the room? Or did they just not care, despite what Aelin had told you? Either way, you were pressing your legs together at Aelin’s pleasured moans, fighting the urge to slide your hand between your thighs.
All that kept you from doing it was the knowledge that they were your Queen and King, and they were allowed to do what they wanted, even if it was driving you insane. You, however, didn’t want to know the consequences of pleasuring yourself to your Queen in the room where she was being pleasured. Aelin’s cry was quickly muffled, and you imagined how pretty her face was as she came before shaking the thought out of your head, forcing yourself to reopen your book and stare at the words. They didn’t make any sense, but you turned a page anyways, trying to act as casual as you could when you saw Aelin and Rowan emerge from behind the partition, both clean and in new clothes.
Your heart nearly stopped as you saw what Aelin was wearing, a pink silk nightgown that barely reached her thighs, the tiny straps and low neckline exposing as much skin as possible.
You were going to die before the night was over, you were sure of it. You’d heard how possessive the fae are of their mates, and they had the power to strip you of your home and assets if they wished. And even if Aelin was dressed in nearly nothing, it gave you absolutely no right to stare at her. Somehow, you forced your eyes to focus on your book again, ignoring the way that Aelin and Rowan prepared for bed.
Maybe you could ‘read’ until they blew out the candles and sleep in the chair instead, but you doubted they would allow you to, with how adamant Aelin had been about it earlier.
They talked quietly with each other, your eyes drifting closed as the room warmed further from the fire that had been started at some point. You didn’t notice when their conversation stopped, or hear Rowan approach you. It was only when his arms slid under you that you stirred, blinking sleepily up at him as he pulled you into his arms.
“I can walk, you know,” you said, pouting when he didn’t set you on your feet.
“I know. You looked so tired, though,” Rowan whispered in your ear, a shiver running through you. He set you down in the middle of the bed, with Aelin already laying down to your right. You couldn’t help the racing of your heart, especially when you saw Rowan taking off his shirt from the corner of your eye.
If only you could melt into the floor.
Aelin turned onto her side, one of her hands finding yours. She played with your fingers and traced tiny circles on your palm, watching you with her bright eyes as the room dimmed with each candle Rowan blew out. A grin lit up her face when Rowan laid down and you took in a sharp breath, shuddering when one of his arms slung over your waist.
“it’s okay, you know,” Aelin said softly, and you turned to look at her. “To want us, that is. We want you.” When you only stared at her in stunned silence, she continued, “Why do you think we only bring you along on these excursions? You’re extremely talented, and do most of the work that’s needed, but extra hands could always help.”
“I… What?”
“We turn down Aedion’s offer to join us every time, Y/N, so that we can spend time with you,” Rowan chuckled, his hand gripping your waist. “And even if we didn’t hear your heart beat faster every time we approached, the delicious scent of your arousal would certainly give you away.”
Your eyes squeezed shut in embarrassment and you couldn’t bring yourself to speak or pull yourself out of their hold.
“Did you like listening to my mate pleasuring me?” Aelin asked as her fingers left your hand and began trailing over the fabric of your dress. “I heard every little hitch of your breath after you came back to the room, pretty girl. And you only turned one page of your book,” she murmured.
“I…” you paused when Aelin’s hands drifted over your breasts, losing the fight against the shiver her touch brought. “I’m sorry for listening.”
Aelin smiled. “I’m not. We put on that whole show for you, you know…” You let out a whimper at the tone of her voice, the longing in it nearly making you squirm under her touch. “Can I take off this pretty dress, sweet girl?”
Any defenses you had left were melted away by the desire in her eyes and you nodded, wriggling in their hold as her hand made a slow descent to the hem of your dress. Slowly, torturously so, Aelin pulled the dress up, only needing to tap your hips for you to lift them. Her other hand slid under your back, untying the loose lacing you had managed after your bath. The rest of your dress came off a moment later, two sets of hands freeing you from the fabric.
Their hands held you so gently as they pressed against your sides, so warm and making you dizzy with arousal with how much of their skin you could feel without even lifting your hands.
“You’re even prettier than I’d imagined,” Aelin whispered in your ear before biting it softly, a quiet moan leaving your lips at the feeling. Her hand ghosted over your breasts again, toying with the lace strap of your bra. Her eyes slipped to Rowan’s for a moment before she laughed lowly, and her lips were at your ear again. “Rowan wants to know if he can touch you here,” she said, a hand sliding between your legs, fingers rubbing over your covered clit for only a moment, the spark of pleasure just a taste of what they could give you.
You bit your lip as you looked them both in the eyes, and what you saw in them eased any fears you’d had about consequences. A nod of your head was all you could manage with the way they had you feeling, at least until you saw their eyes still gazing at you expectantly. Aelin raised a brow, the gold ring in her eyes burning so brightly as she waited for what they both, apparently, needed to hear. “Yes,” you whispered, teeth toying with your lip as your eyes flicked between them. You wiggled between them before opening your mouth again. “Yes, you can touch me, Rowan. Both of you,” you breathed, cheeks burning. You jolted with how quickly Rowan’s fingers were beneath your underwear, and melted at the groan he let out against the skin of your neck.
“So wet for us already,” he groaned as he slipped a finger inside of you with no resistance, then another.
“It’s not my fault Aelin sounds so pretty,” you mumbled just before he angled his fingers, drawing a breathy moan from your throat.
Aelin giggled against your shoulder, her hand dipping below the fabric of your bra and rolling your nipple between her fingers and delighting at the noise you let out. “I’m not the only one who sounds pretty,” Aelin said before reaching for the silk ties keeping your chest covered, pink lips suckling on sensitive skin the moment she’d freed it.
A third finger entered you and you moaned, hips pushing into Rowan’s hand slightly. His teeth nipped at your throat, thumb brushing over your clit. It was impossible to think, impossible to stop the noises tumbling from your mouth as they toyed with you, building your pleasure higher and higher. The insistent circling of his thumb and the way Aelin’s mouth and hands felt on your breasts was maddening. Little sparks of fire heated your skin where Aelin’s fingers brushed over you, the sensation more intoxicating than you could’ve hoped for.
Those fingers drifted down over your abdomen, slipping beneath Rowan’s hand at your core and circled your clit, those same sparks setting fire to your blood as Rowan’s fingers started moving faster, angling for the spots that made you moan the loudest.
It wasn’t fair how quickly they worked you to your peak, how well they seemed to know your body already. But then you were tumbling over the edge, nonsense leaving your mouth as they coaxed you through it. Their fingers slowed when you stopped twitching in their hold, stopping when you whined with how sensitive you were.
Your eyes had fallen shut at some point, and opened again when you heard pleased hums from both of them. Your face flushed at the sight of Rowan letting Aelin suck his fingers clean of your arousal, and judging from the glint in his eyes, he had gotten a taste as well.
“You’re delicious,” Aelin purred once she’d finished, pressing her plush lips to your own, the taste of yourself on her tongue sending a wave of heat through you, followed by another once she pulled herself away long enough to let Rowan kiss you.
You bit your lip as your eyes darted between them, unsure of how much you could ask for. Because even if it was just for tonight… You wanted as much of them as you could have.
Warm fingers drifted down your stomach again, fingers tugging gently on your panties. “What do you say? Should we take these off?” Aelin asked, the simple question sending a shiver of anticipation through you.
“Only…” you paused, glancing at both of them quickly before finishing, “Only if both of you join me.” Your teeth worried your lip as they shared a look, releasing it once you saw the matching, wicked grins on their lips.
“Oh, honey,” Aelin smirked. “That was always part of the plan.”
