"-Any questions?” said Arashiyama, finishing the introduction spiel and looking over the new C-rank agents. They looked slightly stunned, as well they might. It was a lot of information to take in at once. Border’s recruitment efforts were beginning to expand, it was sometimes hard to remember that these kids didn’t even know what a trigger was yet, let alone trion.
A hand went up.
“Yes?” said Arashiyama.
“Kitora Ai,” said a middle schooler. She’d chosen a gunner trigger. “Thank you for your explanation, Arashiyama-san. Am I correct in assuming that we will be given the opportunity to form squads like Arashiyama Squad once we become B-rank agents, along with the other responsibilities of rank?”
“Yes!” said Arashiyama. “While you’re in training, you’ll meet other agents as well as your friends here right now, and the squads will naturally organise themselves out of your own initiative.”
“I can’t imagine what an honour it would be to be offered a place in an A-rank squad like Arashiyama Squad as a fresh B-rank trainee,” said Kitora Ai, composedly. “The applicant would have to be of astounding ability and poise. They would have to be intelligent, well-presented, well-spoken, able to carry the image of Border and, of course, a capable and resourceful agent and combatant in order to protect the townspeople.”
A momentary pause. The overhead lighting spangled off Kitora’s stylishly-cut hair. Every new agent moved their gazes from Kitora to Captain Arashiyama.
He smiled, teeth and eyes gleaming. “Yes,” he said. “This way to the training rooms, if you don’t mind.”

One place that makes me happy and why: The New York Botanical Gardens, especially in the autumn. Walking around their Kiku exhibitions during autumn brings a sense of peace, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

- Sir Winston Churchill. It's true he messed up the Middle East (I will never agree with his policies wrt to that region), but led Britain through WWII, when the country stood alone against the rest of Europe.
- Edward Said. I don't have to explain this further. Intellectual and human rights activist. His passion for the Palestinian cause could make me cry.
- Rosalind Franklin. I'd love to ask her about her work, about her feelings being a female scientist in a male-dominated field. And how she was screwed over ;_;
2. What is one issue that you could never be silent about? (What are you super passionate about)
Tobacco use. I'm anti-tobacco all the way. I'm a woman of an ethnic minority and I've seen how tobacco use impacts families negatively at both a macro and micro level. I take it very, very personal indeed. You won't find me reblogging any picture of a celebrity smoking.
3. What is your favorite season and why?
Winter. I'm a solitary person, mostly. And I love either walking around in winter, the cold around me, or at home snuggled up with a good movie or book.

Working in CDC, Atlanta. I WILL GET THERE ONE DAY, I'm already in the right field, dammit!

NaruHina, from Naruto. Naruto's one of my longest fandoms - I have an on-off relationship with it, but I'll always come back to Naruto because I believe he will become Hokage one day. I like NaruHina because I think they make a perfect foil for each other. Naruto's boisterous, brash and loud. Hinata's just the opposite. Cliche, I admit, but I'm easy that way.
OK, I am cheating, but umm, Eowyn and Faramir too. I have FEELINGS about these two, OK?
6. If you could change the world, would you do it? If so, what? If not, why?
A little less Islamophobia would be nice. Sometimes, reading the papers, it makes me feel that me and my people (both my ethnicity and my religion) aren't welcome anywhere.

Faramir - self-explanatory.
Eowyn - I don't need to explain further. She was totally badass.
Atticus Finch - come on, he was hot.
Temeraire - I want my own dragon!
Stitch - I want my own alien to be part of my ohana.

I can't give a short answer to this one because I have a sweet tooth. I do like ice-cream. Butterscotch or hazelnut. Failing that, cookies and cream. Having said that, I actually prefer gulab jamun or kuih lopes. If not, creme brulee or bread pudding with a lot of vanilla sauce.
9. If you could time-travel, where would you go (time and place) and why?
Either the Islamic Golden Age, or Venice during the ninth to twelfth century, at the height of the city's power and influence.

I believe there are many things that I do not know. I am not ruling out the existence of aliens. But you won't find me UFO-hunting either.

Going to the library with my family. My neighbourhood didn't have a library when I was growing up, my dad had to bring us out on weekends so we could get our books.
