I'm not interested in joining the public outcry against this or that breadtuber's latest take on The Conflict, but one thing I am pretty passionate about and have been mulling for a few years is that leftists need to be willing to actually engage with history as a complex and messy narrative that doesn't exist solely for the purpose of validating their current views. I've been noticing for a while that political youtubers have a bad tendency to bring up historical events as a way to justify their current gripes, and in the process they invariably give a massively distorted view of the events and the actors' motivations (to give a non-Conflict related example, this has been very egregious with people's treatment of the German Revolution).
This mode of engaging with history is a really insidious form of presentism, as it reduces all history to the moral justification for views that, let's be real, you already held before even looking into this. Of course we are all susceptible to looking at history with a modern lens, that's inevitable to some extent. But when you are engaging with historical content on youtube or other online sources, I think it's useful to take a moment and ask yourself: Am I actually learning anything here? Am I actually curious about what happened and why? And is the person telling me this interested about sharing their knowledge to satisfy that curiosity, or do they just have an axe to grind? As long as you keep these questions in mind, I think you can watch and enjoy whatever you want.
To end on a positive note and to encourage people who are interested in actually learning things, especially when it comes to Jewish history, one channel I cannot recommend enough is Sam Aronow. His videos go into great depth about all of Jewish history (up to the early 1930s), not just the famous bits or the ones most easily weaponized to make a partisan point. But even if you're interested in stuff like, say, the history of Zionism as a historical movement, you will find a perspective that is honest and very critical when it needs to be, but also takes seriously its nuances and the historical context it existed in. I really encourage you to check it out.
Hasan Piker also abused his dog on a YouTube stream. Very interesting people the tankies have propped up as leaders.
my favorite video on this topic is "The Online Left Is Eating Itself" which is. yeah.
so the thing is I'm still mad because I wouldn't have been subjected to that woman if y'all had opted for Kamala so I'm going to drop a little home truth on your heads.
the thing you cosplay leftists need to understand about the glorious revolution that you want other people to suffer and die for. the revolution none of you will work for yourselves. the revolution you wait in your gentrified blue state gated communities for by gleefully making things worse, because "then the working class will rise up"
those of us out here who are doing the suffering? who are losing our rights and our safety and what little social safety net we had?
we fucking HATE you. I wouldn't rise up for your revolution. I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. I'm too goddamn busy e-begging for grocery money. I'm too busy worrying about how to keep medical care. I'm too busy worrying about my house being vandalized or my personal safety in public or the utility bills that keep rising because of unregulated unchecked data centers.
congratulations on making things worse. it's absolutely not going to turn out the way Marx and Lenin and Stalin told you it would
y'all personally owe me reparations. find my venmo in my pinned, or do you only care about reblogging scams for the clout
What's wild about the Contrapoints statement is, this isnt the position of the Ive Had it Podcast. This isnt the position of the Pod Save America boys. She's being more right-wing on this topic than (admittedly progressive) liberals. More than people that worked directly with Obama and Biden. The Pod Save guys were literally cririsising Biden about Gaza pre election.
I always thought the "she's a lib" take to be a bit overblown but in the end I think that might have been underselling it. I will say, this is the final form of the "erm tactics and optics" posting for the online American left and the years we wasted with the online creators so focused on that dominating the discourse can finally be put to bed.
Trumps team has former news hosts, and that guy who had a worm in his brain but some online leftist are complaining about identity politics the minute trump brought up DEI. It's funny how so much of American online "leftism" is white male grievance
5 years ago complaints about identity politics were already overly racist and sexist and its obvious that when white men moan about identity politics or solidarity, they mean appeasing white men and everyone else being subordinate because they just want a gentler white supremacy were white men dominate but with public transport. These people do not talk about young men failing as them just being inferior, stupid, or inherently violent, but an issue that needs resources and for women to stop being massive cunts. They're the real victims of capitalism, and talking about their lack of achievement isn't identity politics, nor is it bad to want programs to help them, but nobody else gets to have that . Discussions around failing young men are about community but anything else like women in the workplace is girlboss shit. In the socialist streamer lead, utopia women will have paid time off work to breed, care, and birth the real workers. Creating a utopia where motherhood means you're not a part of the workforce and no thought about childcare because women don't like having personal time if there's a baby isn't deeply patriarchal thinking. Women shouldn't have ambition or want to use their leadership abilities to better the world
It's so crazy that no matter the political stripes, white people love race science, and white men love the idea of inherent female inferiority. All criticism is identity politics unless you're making an identical point about young men, then it's a political emergency
