A drawing of a very common bird in Hong Kong. The Oriental magpie-robin (鵲鴝). I did this acrylic ink drawing based on a photo I took. The photo depicts this buddy resting high up on a bare branch against the clear sky. The photo itself isn't of great quality but I think it is a good reference material for a studio piece. I have always wanted to use pure lines to depict a summer sky with rolling clouds so here came the chance and I think they go well with the bare branches and the bird.

A beautiful bird, Oriental Magpie Robin (female) chirping and playing around my house. More Information: The Oriental magpie-robin (Copsychus saularis) is a small passerine bird that was formerly classed as a member of the thrush family Turdidae, but now considered an Old World flycatcher. They are distinctive black and white birds with a long tail that is held upright as they forage on the ground or perch conspicuously. Occurring across most of the Indian subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia, they are common birds in urban gardens as well as forests. They are particularly well known for their songs and were once popular as cagebirds. Description: This species is 19 centimetres (7.5 in) long, including the long tail, which is usually held cocked upright when hopping on the ground. When they are singing a song the tail is normal like other birds. It is similar in shape to the smaller European robin, but is longer-tailed. The male has black upperparts, head and throat apart from a white shoulder patch. The underparts and the sides of the long tail are white. Females are greyish black above and greyish white.
