hi, i’m a greyaro(?) asexual person who’s curious and wanting to know more about the term oriented aroace. i know about it, sorta, but i know i fall somewhere on the aromantic spectrum and i want to know how someone might know if they’re and oriented aroace, or if you can be a grey-oriented ace? and maybe a more in-depth definition?
Hi! So I think a lot of this comes down to semantics and people choosing which words they prefer best when definitions overlap.
Oriented aro aces don’t experience romantic or sexual attraction, but they may still prefer to have sex, traditionally date, or be in QPR’s with specific gender(s).
I would generally say someone who is gray aro and ace or aro and gray ace wouldn’t really need to use the “oriented” labels considering there is some degree of attraction implied there as is, but they could if they wanted to, it’s not like it’s hurting anyone. Likewise, aro and ace can also function as umbrella terms, so saying you’re an oriented aro ace is you’re gray ace and/or gray aro wouldn’t be incorrect either.
I hope this answers your questions, anon. If not, I’d be happy to try to clarify or bring in some other aro ace blogs to help.
