Snippet Sunday
As I said at the beginning of the week I will post a snippet of what I wrote the week on Sunday to hold me accountable to write more. So here we go with a snippet of the scene of “Drugs of Love” that kept on annoying me for weeks because I couldn’t work past it. For understanding, Devlin is the guy she met at the sex club but never saw his face because of the masks both were during the special events at the club and Lorkin asked her to swing by on a Sunday after she spent the night at the sex club and her motivation to deal with him was zero.
"You're probably wondering why I asked you to come here." "Especially on a Sunday," she added again with that slight tinge in her voice. "As you know, the charity ball is on Friday and I noticed we haven't settled our story yet. I read through the folder you and Kina worked out, but the more details we come up with, the more credible it becomes." He handed her the glass with a disarming smile. "Confuse them with details." "Exactly. I thought dinner would be more appropriate. And don't worry, I didn't use anything that you're allergic to. I guess I can't go wrong with fish." The fish made up a bit for it for Nesryn. "No, you can never go wrong with fish with me." He almost hovered over her for a moment and then straightened up again. It flashed briefly in Nesryn's mind that Lorkin had a physique uncannily similar to Devlin's, but put the thought to the side. This was something where she had to remain professional, even if her gaze followed Lorkin. "How do you know what I'm allergic to?" It may have been a little late, but still he turned around with a wry smile. "At our business dinner you refused the asparagus. Even though you didn't say you were allergic to it, it was obvious. I simply asked Irideska to look briefly at your personnel file." "I don't know if that's not illegal." "Just because I'm concerned about your health? Besides, Kina needed to know about the food for the ball and to pass it on if we were invited." "That makes sense, but you could have asked." His gaze hung on her in a way that made her wonder if he wanted to eat her or intimidate her. Besides, she thought it was arrogant of him to just ask the personnel file where she was under his direct authority. Nesryn took a sip of wine but kept an eye on Lorkin. The slight twitch in the corner of his mouth shot hot fury through her body. She had to force herself to swallow and not spit the wine in his face, even though she didn't know exactly where the impulse came from.
So stay tuned for next week. If you want to be tagged in my Snippet Sunday posts let me know. You are also free to use it for yourself. Oh, and if you do, please tag me. I would love to see what people are working on. See you next Sunday 💋
