If someone might become important to you you'll have a mark to represent them outlined somewhere on your body. These are common, everyone has many of these that come and go throughout their life

If they do become important to you, the mark fills in, gaining color and life. The more important to each other you are, the more solid and present the mark is

If they stop being important to you, or the potential for you to be important to each other disappears, the mark fades away. Outlines come and go regularly

If they die and they're still important to you, your mark for them fills in with a solid color. It takes time for them to fill in, it doesn't happen immediately. These marks can still fade away, though it usually takes longer

Soulmarks don't represent romance- they don't even mean a positive relationship. Just an important one

A child's first soulmark usually appears when they're very young. Most first soulmarks represent a parent-child relationship, and appear around when the child starts to realize they're not actually part of the same organism as their caretaker
