Burrowing owls are the only owls to nest in underground burrows, made by small mammals or themselves, if none of the former are available. When threatened, they retreat into these burrows and imitate the sound of a rattlesnake to scare off intruders.

Contrary to popular belief, not all owls are nocturnal. There are some who are diurnal like us, some who hunt during dusk and dawn, and many many who don't have a clearly defined sleep schedule, instead adapting to prey availability.
