Continuing my yearly tradition of drawing at least one Oswald every October! I felt nostalgic for this witch!AU I made a few years ago, and I wanted to revisit it!
Oztober Week 2: Lets Play a Game
Ozma of Oz is my favourite of the books and Return to Oz is a great movie so I had to do the Nome King’s game!!
What’s going on?
Both in the third book Ozma of Oz, and the film Return to Oz, Dorothy and her friends (the party members change depending on which version) go to the Nome King’s kingdom to free some prisoners.
The Nome King’s like “you want them? Ok but you gotta play my game first”
The game is simple, all they have to do is find the ornaments that the king turned his prisoners into. However there are a LOT of ornaments to choose from. If they guess wrong they become ornaments
In the back with have the Nome King. I keep forgetting his real name but it’s not important.
Then top right we have Princess Ozma of Oz. Ruler of Oz and Dorothy’s girlfriend (not officially but they do kiss a lot) she’s only a main player of this part of the story in the book where she accepts the challenge only to realise how over her head she is.
Then we have Scarecrow from the previous picture. He’s a key part of both versions. Being able to outsmart the Nome king in the book version and being the first ornament found in the film version
On the right with have TikTok. Dorothy’s servant. He’s a key player in both versions because he tries to help Dorothy find a trick as to what ornaments are correct.
Dorothy of course is the main character so she is able to solve the puzzle
Billina the Chicken is the MVP because she’s able to outsmart the Nome King in both versions. Finding all the correct ornaments in the book by overhearing the Nome King talk to his Steward and in the movie killing the Nome King Outright
It was really fun taking inspiration from other works of Quinrose to create Ozma, TikTok and the Nome King as they never appeared in the Captive Hearts of Oz manga. Or a lot of manga adaptations really…
Drawing a Pengy a day for October, as per the #oztober challenge. Taking some liberties with the prompts for inspiration, but roughly: 1) Silver Age (Batman #169), 2) Golden Age (Batman #43), 3) Bronze Age (Batman #288), 4) Arkham Knight videogame, 5) Penguin and Robin, 6) BTAS (“Second Chances”)
25. JUSTICE LEAGUE ACTION
The blade passed close enough to slice the hairs from his chin, if he'd had any.
"You left!" Oswald growled. "Without a word! I woke up and-"
His anger overrode his power of speech and he lunged again. Ed quickly dodged.
"I meant to call. I swear," he insisted. "But Batman was on my tail. I didn't want him to find me there. To incriminate you," he appended hastily as Oswald growled again. "Falling for you was never part of my plans."
Oswald finally paused.
"Falling for me?"
Ed seized the opening and kissed him.
"Falling for you," he confirmed.
9. BATMAN UNLIMITED
He laid him to rest on his own family plot, the only mourner to stand by his grave and weep. Who else would have come anyway?
“We should have retired to my private island,” Oswald said bitterly. “But this city, this cursed city, gets her claws in you and never let’s go. Like the archetypal American eagle.”
He looked away to the wretched skyline and felt no affinity, only betrayed revulsion.
“Gotham isn’t worth this price. She never was.”
Tendrils of guilt curled at him but he turned those emotions outwards.
“I’ll make them pay,” he promised. “They’ll all pay.”
