I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just genuinely curious to why you don't really like canon relationships? o:

it’s...hard to explain, but I genuinely do not like being told from the get go that a pairing is true Love and You Should Be Invested.

I am very much a “show don’t tell” person, so I find a lot of canon romances fall flat since there’s not much to actually back up the romance besides the storyline basically saying “because I said so”.  Romance is tricky to write anyways, so I’m of the opinion that if you’re not going to devote a good amount of time to actually developing your pairing, you should just not write romance into your story at all....but so many things just stick the token romance into their works since it seems like people are incapable of consuming media without at least two people boinking.  (Which is another rant)

So, canon romances put me off because I know that, unless the characterization is fucking amazing, I’m most likely not going to end up liking that pairing and thus have to suffer through romance scenes that i think are trite and boring.  And even if the characterization is good, sometimes...sometimes I just don’t like that pairing.  I don’t think it works, I prefer them as friends, etc.  (This is what happened with me and Rei/Nagisa, btw - I felt them better off as friends, but then everyone and their goddamn dog shipped it and shoved it into EVERYTHING (and a lot of people got low-key smug about Reigisa during the shipping wars and shit like “hurr hurr while you guys are fighting I’m going to sit in the corner with the One True Pairing lulz!” and that annoyed me too lol))

So...yeah.  me and canon romances don’t get along.  I can count on one hand the number of canon ships I actually liked, otherwise I tend to veer off into Rarepair land and sob quietly in my lonely corner.

If I was to ship anyone in the British Isles, they need to not... be really related, related. Or closely related. Cousins might be okay, but if they were blood siblings.
