i think I may have derealization/depersonalization. I have all the symptoms, and every story I have read written by people with DR/DP resonates with me perfectly and I can relate to every single one. I want to tell someone, but I'm not sure how to go about doing it since my parents aren't veru understanding and the school counselor (the only "professional" person i have avaliable) isn't any good. I want to tell my friends but every time I try i end up chickening out. tag as Jade

Thank you for sending in your askto mental health advice. I am so happy that you came to us for advice. I hopeto help you as much as I can. Derealization and depersonalization are tricky. Iam not diagnosed with it but I also think that I have it. I am happy that youare reaching out for help because it can be very scary to deal with that. I cangive you some tips on how to get help.

               One optionyou have is to tell your parents. Even if they aren’t really understandingabout mental illness, I’m sure that they want the best for you. If you tellthem that you think you need to see a therapist I would think they would helpget you one. If you are scared to tell them, I would start by writing out whatyou want to say. Then you can go from there and tell them in person or handthem the letter. Your parents love you and want the best for you so I know theywill do what is best.

               Anotheroption is to talk with your school counselor. They may have more informationthan you think. You can ask them if they know anything about mental illness andgetting diagnosed. They might be able to help you get an appointment with apsychiatrist. Telling your friends is okay too! I know they will support you,even if you are scared.

               I knowthat you can get through this! Did you know that we have a live chat servicethat is available to anyone who needs it? To speak with someone you can send ina request for someone to get online or see if an admin has posted that they arecurrently online.
