The fact that Parizad and Parahuda's love shack in Ecbatana used to be Kharlan's mansion though 😂😭
I assume that all Marzbans (and other nobles who have both land/property elsewhere and duties at court/in the capital) had residences in the city. The residence we see Hilmes living in used to belong to some nobleman or other, if I recall correctly.
I wonder whether Zandeh technically inherited Kharlan's mansion in Ecbatana after he died? Perhaps he stayed there at that time, too, but I'm far too attached to my headcanon that he and Sam stayed at Hilmes's place (Team Hilmes basecamp). It's certainly big enough for all of them, and Sam was staying there anyway while he was still recovering from his wounds. Book 13 mentions that Kharlan's old mansion is massive; too big for two people to the extent that even if they were to hire household staff there would be many empty rooms. I imagine Zandeh would have felt lonely there in his grief so soon after his father's death. Much better to imagine him closer to Hilmes, working together with Sam to prepare for the future his father believed in, too.
Anyway, given Parizad's previous romantic involvement with Zandeh, there's a tinge of irony that she ends up living in his father's place with her new lover.
(It is sweet that she asks Parahuda to teach her Lusitanian so he has someone to speak it with, though.)
