It featurs the charismatic northern parula and magnolia warblers perched atop bunchberry, with the classic rocky coast of Mount Desert Island in the background.

Northern Parula (Setophaga americana)

Parula used to be classified in their own genus before the big 'warbler merger' took place. They are quite small compared to other Setophaga warblers, with a small, sharp bill and distinct color pattern.

Parula use epiphytic mosses to create their nests, which means they are typically found breeding in high quality forests where these mosses can grow in absence of air pollution. Because of increased logging of forests and draining of bogs, as well as increased pollution, many of this bird's breeding habitat in the central US has been lost.

All banding, marking, and sampling is being conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Geological Survey's BBL.
