PATHFINDERS - The Kobold Animist
* UPDATE September 3rd 2023 *
So... there's been some news regarding the Shaman class in Pathfinder 2E since I posted this little lady. On September 1st, 2023, a playtest for two new classes in the game was released. One of them is the Animist, which would be the closest to what the Shaman was in 1E. As such, I've decided to drop the Shaman from my listing of classes in this series of drawings, replacing them with the Animist, and updating the description of each one. Luckily, I've only posted the Kobold Shaman so far, so it won't be that difficult hehe
Kobolds, in classic D&D, are scrawny, cunning reptilian humanoids who serve as "annoying pests" and - in most cases - are only a bigger threat when attacking in groups or confronted in their lairs, and which are usually they associate with chromatic dragons as minions because they believe they are part of their lineage, since their main language is Draconic. In Pathfinder, especially in Second Edition, Kobolds are not only believed to be heirs of dragons as they actually manifest some abilities of these creatures, such as resistance to particular elements and elemental breath attacks depending on the color of their scales, as well as being masters of survival, cautious and shrewd, being valuable allies to anyone who wants to be by their side.
Giving the necessary corrections here, I decided to bring this lady as a Kobold Animist, divine casters linked to spiritual entities known as apparitions, which grant them their powers and access to magic. An apparition interacts with the physical world in a variety of ways, known as attunements, which can be linked to either a specific location or a specific person. I chose for her to be a Channeler Animist, more loosely connected to various apparitions and acting as conduits for their spiritual energies.
Apparitions, like Eidolons for Summoners, also follow various types of "edicts" so to speak. Originally, as this drawing represented a Shaman and her Spiritual Guide in the form of an animal, I decided to transform the little feathered mouse as a "Custodian of the Woods and Gardens", averse to conflicts and connected to nature, pursuing study and reflection, which seems perfect for what I saw as a character that would be mainly support/heal to her party.
