Thoughts that I've had about the DamiAnya ship for a while now and is the reason I personally could never ship them.

DISCLAIMER: Regardless of my views or opinions, I still think you are valid for shipping them. I actually think it could very well be a canon romantic relationship. That being said...

I think Anya can never truly reciprocate Damian's romantic feelings, because they are tainted by obligation and external pressure. Even if she wanted to love Damian, her need for love from anyone is secondary to her need for love from her 'father'.

I haven't really looked through the fandom/fan fiction consensus on what the ship looks like, so pardon me if this is a fairly cold take on the ship, but I really think there would have to be a huge shift in Anya's relationship with Loid before Anya could really explore a healthy relationship with Damian.

We know Anya only pushes hard for a relationship with Damian because Loid wants her to. Loid spends an entire day following her around at school to make sure she does what he wants her to and even isolates her (calling Becky away) to ensure she does it. The pressure has gotten to the point that Anya is even seeing Yor as competition! Not just for completing Loid's mission, but for Loid's love and attention. Now, of course, Anya WANTS her mother and father to love each other.

But Anya knows Loid keeps her around because he needs her. She's kept herself useful. She is constantly seeking out how to win people over so long as it will make her father happy.

Anya's love for Damian is, at least in my opinion, conditional on whether her father loves her more for loving Damian.
